 More Depth. Please provide more detail on how this
training goes beyond concepts covered in your 200-
hour training, as several sessions appear to have the
same descriptions and content as your 200-hour
training. To fully understand your training, we need
to also understand what the trainees will experience
during your training . You can explain this by
describing the activities trainees will complete to
learn the content/topics, and how this content
expands upon topics covered in your 200-hour
training. Please review each session and ensure it is
clear what topics trainees will learn at a more
advanced level, and how you are teaching this
content to trainees.

 Techniques, Training and Practice Category

Requirement: In the Techniques, Training and
Practice Category, Please explain what types of
analytical training you will use and how you will
include guided practice in your training. For
the guided practices, what is the learning objective
for each practice? How do the sessions differ from
one another? Provide an overview of each guided
practice. For example, there may be a guided practice
with a focus on the heart chakra and all postures are
focused on heart opening. Perhaps there is a peak
posture the practice is building towards. Provide
more detail on the analytical training your program
covers. Provide specific detail on how you are
teaching trainees to perform and practice the
techniques included in your guided practice sessions.
For example, this may include teaching alignment,
dristi, bandha engagement, and breath in the postures
your training covers. “How am I teaching trainees to
perform the yoga techniques my training covers?”
 Anatomy & Physiology Requirement: A minimum
of 5 Contact Hours must be spent applying anatomy
and physiology principles to yoga. Please clarify this
in the Anatomy and Physiology Category session
description, along with more detail on the specific
topics you plan to cover for the Contact Hours
allocated.

 Ethics Requirement: It is not clear what specific

ethics concepts related to teaching yoga to others you
will teach in your training. The ethics requirement as
noted in the Yoga Alliance 300 Hour Standards only
relates to ethics of teaching yoga to others. This does
not include ethics of, for example, living a yogic life.
Please clearly describe the ethics concepts you will
cover, such as ethics of touching students, ethical
boundaries in student teacher relationships, and so
on. Please also explain how much time you will
spend on ethics related to teaching yoga to others.

 Practicum Requirement: It is not clear that each

trainee will teach for a full 5 Contact Hours as the
lead instructor because there are several activities in
addition to practice teaching in the Practicum
Category. Please make sure the hours assigned to the
session reflect all content in the description and
learning objective sections. Please also note that the
practice teaching requirement does not include
practice assisting (only), observing or providing
feedback.

 Content According to Educational

Category: Review your sessions to be sure it is clear
how your training meets the requirements in each
Educational Category. I am providing an explanation
of each category below.

o Techniques, Training, and Practice

Category: For the guided practices “Asana
Practice”-50 Contact Hours, what is the
learning objective for each practice? How do
the sessions differ from one another? Provide
an overview of each guided practice. For
example, there may be a guided practice with a
focus on the heart chakra and all postures are
focused on heart opening. Perhaps there is a
peak posture the practice is building towards.
Provide more detail on the analytical training
your program covers. Provide specific detail on
how you are teaching trainees to perform and
practice the techniques included in your guided
practice sessions. For example, this may
include teaching alignment, dristi, bandha
engagement, and breath in the postures your
training covers. “How am I teaching trainees to
perform the yoga techniques my training
covers?” Content on sequencing, assisting, and
cueing should be moved to the Teaching
Methodology Category.

o Teaching Methodology Category. This

category includes content on how to teach
yoga. Topics can include, but are not limited to:
communication skills such as group dynamics,
time management and prioritizing; how to
address the specific needs of individuals and
special populations, to the degree possible in a
group setting; principles of demonstration,
observation, sequencing, cuing, assisting and
correcting; qualities of a teacher, teaching
styles and the student learning process. A good
way to think of this category is to ask: “How do
I teach my trainees to teach yoga to others?”

o Anatomy and Physiology Category. This

category includes content on the physical and
energetic bodies. Topics can include, but are
not limited to: both human physical anatomy
and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.)
and energy anatomy and physiology (chakras,
nadis, etc.). This includes both the study of the
subject and application of its principles to yoga
practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy
movement patterns, etc.). It should be clear
how you are applying this knowledge to yoga.

o Practicum Category. The category topics can

include practice teaching, receiving and giving
feedback, observing others teaching and
assisting students while someone else is
teaching. Within this category, please clarify
how each trainee will receive at least 5 hours of
practice teaching as the lead instructor under
the observation of a trainer listed on your
application.

 Non-Contact Hours: Some of the sessions in the

syllabus include Non-Contact Hours. Please clarify in
the session description what content is being assigned
as Non-Contact Hours. Please also explain how you
will evaluate the Non-Contact Hour assignments.
You may view the Contact and Non-Contact
Hours page as a resource.
