Artistically it is really a big difference to create a group that would surely last to 10 long years

without the brave soul and a mind to appreciate culture and diversity. The rich culture of
Surigaonon reflects art behavioral tradition and great art existence. It was year 1999 when
the performing arts department of Surigao State College of Technology had conceptualized a
dance theatre group showcasing the one of a kind performance that would cater local,
national and international craft, in theater, drama and dance. Sadjao Marajaw Surigao was
also known producing unique talents of Surigaonon beyond dancing. 2004, a brilliant mind of
Sir Basilidas “Jun” Pilapil named the group Sadjao Surigao Dance Theater from it’s original
name because of the future performance and future accreditation to the other established
theater groups.
In 2006, from the local concept, the group was placed in a pedestal to branchout into theater
and was linked to Sing Kambayoka of Mindanao State University as part of their outreach
program to establish the Kambayoka Theater Form.
“Espejo” a play that tackles a socio-cultural issue was the debut production of the group held
at Surigao State College of Technology Campus.
Sir Randy Ruaya the mind and the soul of the group introduced the sublime performances to
different culture away from the city performing surigaonon art and culture which gives pride
and honor bagging awards and be known to other cultural and theatrical group in the country.

Affiliates of the group now is the fronliner of their extension and services. Sadjao Surigao
Dance Theater Affiliates performed not only in their town but also here in the city through
the help of Mayor Karissa Fetalvero – Paronia of the Municipality of Sison.
Talking about the alumnus of the group. Some of them are now speakers, choreographers
and artists in their own field and not a listener anymore. One is working as Culture Director
of Liceo de Cagayan University and the Region 10 Consultants for Cuture and the Arts. Almost
half of the population of the choreographers here in the city are also alumnus of this group.
There are also alumnus working abroad and the head of their own specialization. Most of
them also are now Licensed Engr., Teachers and Medical Technologists working in the
prestigious company here in the country. Others also excelled in dancing and arts bringing
pride to the country.
But, to whatever achievement and appreciation the group have received they remain humble
and kind to help other existing group here in the city.
