Learning Area PHYSICS - ELECTRICITY

Grade Level Grade 8

Time Allotment 60 minutes

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate an understanding of current-voltage-
resistance relationship, electric power, electric energy, and home
circuitry.
B. Performance Standard
The learners shall be able to construct a series and a parallel circuit.
C. Learning Competencies / Objectives Write the LC code for each
The learners should be able to explain the advantages and
disadvantages of series and parallel connections in homes.
Code: S8ES-li-31
II. Content

Teacher’s Activity Materials/Assessment Tool

A. Before the lesson

Elicit (3 minutes)
The teacher will show illustrations on series and parallel
circuit. Questions will be raised to the learners.
Key Questions:
 Describe the illustrations.
Digital illustrations of circuits
 Compare the flow of current of the two
illustrations.
Engage (20minutes)
Working in groups, students will do the activity. The
learners will connect loads in different ways and
explain the similarities and differences between the
circuit connections.
Activity 3: What’s the Connection (Part A)?
Key Questions:
 How many path/s current are there in the
circuit? For Circuit A:
 How will you describe the bulbs in the two  3 connecting wires
 2 identical bulbs with holder
different circuits?
 2 dry cells with holder
 Based on the brightness of the bulbs, compare
the current in each circuit?
Explore (20 minutes)
Working in groups, students will continue the Part B of For Circuit B:
the activity.  4 connecting wires
 2 identical bulbs with holder
The learners will measure the voltage across the two
 2 dry cells with holder
bulbs as well as the voltage across each bulb in the two
circuits. They will record their readings in the table
Voltmeter for both circuits
present in their activity sheet.

Explain (5 minutes)
The students will report their outputs to the class.
After the report, the teacher will give inputs on
important concepts missed by the students.
Elaborate (7 minutes)
The teacher will show a table to the class comparing the
total current, total voltage, and total resistance of series
and parallel circuit.

Evaluate (5 minutes)
Make a Venn Diagram between parallel and series
circuit.

Activity Sheet

Extend
Look at the connections of wirings in your house.
Which are connected in series? Which are connected in
parallel? What are the advantages and disadvantages of
each type of connection?
