Leadership in Philippines

The Government or The Catholic Church

Leadership in a country has a big impact on its stability economy and to its people’s security. In a

country, those should only be one organization or person with the help of his or her members that will

lead the country. Where in many people will benefit. Though in Philippines we know that the

government is the primary leader but as time pass by the quality of leadership that the government is

giving to us is lacking because of the controversies and issues it’s facing up. Many Filipinos now believe

that the government is untrustworthy. In contrary to the government, the Catholic Church has the

trust of the Filipinos.

Why do the Filipinos trust the Catholic Church more than the government? Filipinos trust

the Catholic Church more than the government because of the controversies and issues that

involve the government. Like the PDAF scandal where many government officials were

involved, the senators, the congressmen, the governors, the cabinet members of the president and

other local government officials. Also the projects that did not really help most of the Filipinos to

ease their living, it is cause of the greediness of some government officials. These were only

some factors that cause the Filipinos to distrust the leadership of the government. While the

Catholic Church have the trust of the Filipinos because of many important events here in the

Philippines which they lead. First, is that they are the cause for the Filipinos to be religious and

to have faith in God. Also the Catholic Church is the biggest religious organization here in the

Philippines. According to the Catholic Directory the number of Filipino Catholics reached 76.18

million out of the country’s estimated population of 96.8 million last 2013, which has a very big

influence.
Now let me ask you, between the government and the Catholic Church, who makes the

better decisions? We know that there will be different reactions and answers for this question.

For me, I still trust the quality of leadership that the government offers.

We all know that good leaders are good decision makers. Leaders should always choose

the best for its people, do not stick to one side only and remain unbiased. Although the

government has a bad reputation because of the controversies, I wanted to state that the

government is still making decisions for its people. We can see that they are making laws that

will contribute to the society.

Let us talk about the recently issue the RH Law that really gain the attention of the

government, the Catholic Church and also the people of the Philippines. We can see the

difference between the government and the Catholic Church on how they perceive this law. First

let us know the goal of the RH Law; its goal is to control the increasing population of the

Philippines. The government sees it as a solution to the uneven population density. That is why

they approve of the RH Law. However, for the Catholic Church it is immoral, the law violated

what the bible says.

The government does not rely on one side only, they do not have bias and they think for

the best of the people. RH Law may not be good for some Filipinos but still because most of the

Filipinos will benefit from this and also it will really help to control the population growth of the

Philippines. The Catholic Church on the other hand rely on one side only, and have bias because

we can see on the decisions that they are making they are basing it on what the bible deems to be

moral or immoral. They cannot see the reality of the situation because of what they believe.
It may say that government is lacking the quality of leadership that the Filipinos is

finding because of the controversies and the issues of its officials, but we cannot deny that

government still make better decisions than the catholic church, that most of the Filipinos trust.

They are decision makers that make decisions for the best of most people even there are some

people that will sacrifice. We are being blinded of the mistakes that the government done and we

close ourselves for the good things that they have done. Therefore I still chose the kind of

leadership that the government offers.
