Problem and Setting

Introduction

“Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure” – Gwendolyne Gwen

For the past 46 years, people tends to use glass bottle, people had been
concerned on how they will disposed the glass bottle without breaking it. Luckily, an
American Engineer Nathaniel Wyeth invented a product, it is the polyethylene
terephthalate. The Engineer found an alternative bottle that is made out of plastic or
plastic bottle that people had been using until now.

Plastic bottles can hold different kind of liquids such as soft drinks, water, chemical,
and etc. But after they used it, people just throw the plastic bottles in the trash cans. And
there are times when people do not put out the water from the bottle which is
unacceptable.

However Filipinos are very creative, Filipino people find a way to make plastic
bottles a beneficial thing, for example Filipinos love to decorate during Christmas, they
make Christmas lantern out of plastic bottles also Filipino use plastic bottles as a pot and
design the bottles in order to be presentable, similarly to making a toy out of bottles for
kids, Filipino use the cap as a wheel to the toy car and attach a string to pull.

Plastic bottles can be used for many ideas, from making garden decorations, and
brooms to ottoman seats. Its resilient, flexible, transparent and food-safe qualities allow
us to creatively re-use them for many purposes. So many, that we’ve decided to create a
whole post dedicated to plastic bottle recycling and up cycling ideas. (Skirmante, 2015).

The researchers use the plastic bottles because it is light, strong and hard to break
also if the researchers collected lots of plastic bottles the researcher can make and
provide a trash bin for the school. The trash bin will be placed near the canteen, in the
side of the guard house, and in the side of the front gate were student enters.
According to The Guardian A million plastic bottles are bought around the world
every minute and the number will jump another 20% by 2021, creating an environmental
crisis some campaigners predict will be as serious as climate change it will increase to
583.3bn, according to the most up-to-date estimates from Euromonitor International’s
global packaging trends report.

The trash bins will be placed at the canteen because of the students who buy
foods, and after the students are done eating they will find a trash can to throw the trash.
In addition the researcher also placed a trash bins on the side of the guard house because
of the teacher who usually has a trash in the car. Another trash bin will be placed in the
side of the gate because the researcher notice that the student go outside and buy food
for lunch or for break.

The researcher had three different designs. First for the non-biodegradable trash
bin, the researchers will design the trash bin like a drawer therefore people would throw
their trash easily. Second, is the biodegradable, the researcher put a rubber coating inside
and make a lid to avoid the unpleasant smell. And lastly, the recyclable, the researchers
design has a double purpose trash bin, because it has an interval in every bottle for people
who do not put out the water.

Providing recycled trash bins in Oriental Mindoro National High School will help
the officials to lessen the cost of buying trashcans and the researchers wants to inform
the student that recycling is good for the environment especially in school.

The study is about on how to recycle and make a trash bins out of plastic bottles
also the study is about on how the researches will try persuading the people to throw their
trash properly.

Statement of the Problem

This study differentiated the standardized trash bins and the recyclable trash bins
efficiency. The important questions to be answered are the following:

1. How efficient is standardized trash bins in Oriental Mindoro National High School in
terms of:
a. weight of trash bins,
b. size of trash bins,
c. amount of trash bins?
2. How efficient is soft drinks bottle trash bins in Oriental Mindoro National High School in
terms of:
a. weight of trash bins,
b. size of trash bins,
c. amount of trash bins?
3. Is there a significant difference between the efficiency of standardized trash bins and
soft drinks bottle trash bins in Oriental Mindoro National High School in terms of
a. weight of trash bins,
b. size of trash bins,
c. amount of trash bins?
4. Based from the finding of the study what output should be proposed?
Statement of the Hypothesis

There is a significant difference between standardized trash bins and soft drinks
bottle trash bins in Oriental Mindoro National High School.

Scope and Delimitation

The scope of the study involves the time and money spent, the location, the
materials/instrument, techniques, and the number of personnel needed for the study to
be completed.
This research is expected to be completed with an output by one month. The
chosen location is Oriental Mindoro National High School
The estimated finance to be spent on the experiment is about Php 200.00 for the
minimum and around Php 300.00 for the maximum which depends on the availability of
some equipment and materials to be used.
The main tools needed for the study are pliers, cutter, glue gun and many more.
The general materials needed for the trash bin are the plastic bottles, sand, rubber and
wire.
The experiment needs human power from a minimum number of 4-6 personnel.
The research is to be conducted within the Oriental Mindoro National High School, as this
is the school of the researchers.
It delimits only for standardized trash bins and soft drinks trash bins.

Significance of the Study

This part of the research study aims to determine those who will benefit from this study.

Students- it will be benefited by having clean and organized environment. The scattered trash
will be lessening around the area.
Teachers- it will be benefited by having unpolluted and controlled surroundings. The
disseminated trash will be reducing around the area.
Garbage Collector- the people who collects the garbage daily at school will easily determine if
it biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable.
Definition of Terms

Polyethylene terephthalate- invented by Engineer Nathaniel Wyeth.

Trash bins- container that is use for trash

Biodegradable- capable of being slowly destroyed and broken down into very small
parts.

Non-biodegradable- not capable of being broken down by the action of living

organisms

Recyclable- Materials that is being use again
