ACTIVITIES  Students’ prior knowledge has been activated in this lesson with a
True/False activity. They will be given red and green cards (red to show
i. PRE-LESSON False, green to show True).

 They start the lesson verbally or with a series of statements on the


whiteboard and each of them has to tell whether they think each statement
is True or False using their cards.

ii. LESSON DEVELOPMENT  Students can use informal register to complete Activity D. They do not
need to talk about what is an informal register at this point in the lesson.

 They use the ‘Ideas Focus’, second question, as small-group discussion


activities (groups of 3 or 4 students). Before the discussions start, they
need to understand the speaking skill that they are learning: using an
informal register.

 Teacher discuss with the class the appropriate phrases and expressions to
use in the discussion.

iii. POST-LESSON  Students review their learning in this lesson bygetting pupils to write down
what was the most important thing they learned in the lesson.

ACTIVITIES  Teacher explain what is meant by the term ‘abbreviation’ and provide one

 Students’ prior knowledge has been activated in this lesson by identifying


abbreviations that they already know.

 Students discuss their ideas with their talk partner(s) before collecting
ideas as a class. Write their ideas on the board and then compare them
with the abbreviations in the ‘Learning Focus’ on p.14 of the Student’s
Book.

ii. LESSON DEVELOPMENT  Teacher helps students to punctuate the sentences correctly.

 The email is a short text, but it is intended to prepare them to understand


specific details.

iii. POST-LESSON  Students rewrite key words on board based on the topic learnt by
today by recalling with their talk partner(s).Write ideas on the board,
checking that all corrected.
