Introduction

Meridian Palm Oil Mill is a subsidiary of United Malacca Berhad, Located in Paitan
area, Beluran, 250km from the center of Sandakan city and 320 km from the city of
Kota Kinabalu. Palm Oil Mill started operating since 2004.

Company’s work activity:

1. Processing fresh fruit of palm oil to crude palm oil and kernel seeds.
2. The capacity of the factory allowed by Jabatan Alam Sekitar is 45 tons/hour.
3. Operating 24 hours.

ABSTRACT (EXECUTIVE SUMMARY)

By attending CEPSWAM courses that have been organized by EIMAS, I have been
exposed to the knowledge on how to handle waste in a systematic order of Scheduled
Waste at work. This course has also benefited the companies to make improvements as
listed in this report. Steps have been taken to formulate a plan for the implementation
of full compliance with the EQ (Scheduled waste) Regulations, 2005 (EQSWR 2005).
With the implementation and improvement and approaches that have been given by the
authorities to all industrial sectors, our company is able to overcome the problems in
the management of scheduled wastes thoroughly.

The company also emphasizes training on staff where companies hold internal
training by inviting qualified speakers to provide training.

New policies and procedures have been developed and as a guideline for the
management in dealing with scheduled waste management. The safety and health
policy has already been implemented, as well as the Emergency Response Team and
the Emergency Response Plan had been developed.

3.1.2. Packaging and Labeling of Scheduled Wastes

At our premises, before the SW is taken by our contractors, we will label each
SW according to their respective codes, such as the standard already issued by
the Jabatan Alam Sekitar. Refer to Appendix 3 Appendix.

3.1.3. Storage of Scheduled Wastes

After packaging and labeling this SW, we will stored it in Scheduled Waste store
before being taken by the contractor.

3.1.4. Transportation of Scheduled Waste

Scheduled waste are sent for disposal through licensed transporters.

3.1.5. Disposal of Scheduled Waste

The Company scheduled wastes are disposed of to prescribed premises only.
Currently we are sending our scheduled waste for disposal to the following
prescribed premise:

3.2. Conduct of Scheduled Waste Management Data

3.2.1. Situation Before Course Attendance

Before taking the course, it is difficult for us to follow the rules that have been
set up due to lack of knowledge and exposure, in examples in terms of data
handling, Waste Card and storage management and labeling.

3.2.2 Change Instituted

After participating in this course, we can see improvements in terms of data
management, ESWIS, Waste Card, labeling and storage have been overcome.
