Only 24 Adults can fit

1- me
2- crews
3- married couple (6)
1- baby
3- orphans
3- elderly men
3- elderly women
6- women
3- injured men
2- men
_______________________________
30
another computation:

1- baby = 1 Adult
3- orphans
_______________________________
30 – 3 = 27

1.What possible solutions can solve the case?(provide atleast 3)

1st Possible Solution

- Sacrifice the 3 elderly men and women because they’ve had already seen
and experienced the world. They have lived their life to the fullest
compared to others. Ethical Principle: COMMON GOOD.

2nd Possible Solution

- The 2 married couple with 2 women would be the 1st batch to swim, then
after the next 10 minutes, the 2nd batch having 4 women and 2 men will
interchange the 1st batch having both of the batches 4 women and 2 men
to support them. Sacrificing their place, time and comfort without anyone
having to die will save all of them. After the 10 minutes of each batch, they
would be taken care of by the elderlies for them to be ready again to swim.
The 12 were chosen because they are young, and capable compared to
the others. The 1st married couple cannot do so because they have a
baby to attend to. Ethical Principle: GREATER GOOD.
3rd Possible Solution

___________________________________
Considering this computation:

1- baby = 1 Adult
3- orphans
___________________________________
30 – 3 = 27

- The 3 injured men would be sacrificed because they are prone to infection
and hypothermia due to their injury. They cannot anymore afford helping
others because they would be very busy enough with their own wounds
and would just add up to the weight of the boat. Also, with the injuries
taken into account, the 3 of them cannot last until they are rescued. So
better off sacrifice them for a good cause. Ethical Principle: Deception,
Fraud, and Misleading Information / COMMON GOOD.

2. Among the 3 possible solutions which one is the best and why?

The best possible solution would be the 2nd option. It is because all will be saved
from what was written on the previous page. No one will die if they swim by batch
and would be interchanged with another every 10 minutes. But if unknowingly the
water is shark-infested, and the 1st batch would be eaten, the load of 30
passengers would become a load of 24, which is perfect for the passenger limit
of the boat. It wouldn’t be because they were sacrificed or misinformed, it would
just be an accident they didn’t know and it would be inevitable given the choices
made with the limited time.

3. Specify What Ethical Principle we have learned in class will relate to the
chosen solution?

With the 2nd Solution that is picked, it would be the GREATER GOOD. The
ethical principal we have learned from class that will relate to the chosen
solution is the greater good. Greater good because the two married couples, 6
women and 2 men sacrificed their selves for the safety of everyone inside the
boat. All of them are healthy and fit so they are the ones who will swim
interchangeably. There is also a possibility that there are sharks, if so, the ones
who will still sacrifice are the ones who are swimming. Since they are 6 per
batch, one of the batch can be sacrificed if there are any sharks and then all of
them can now ride the boat . We have learned that the greater good benefits the
many people and then only a few people will need to suffer for everyone to be
saved. There will be chances given to the people who will live.
