ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We are gladly thankful to Departments Prof. T.Kiruthiga who gave to students a
great guidance regarding training. So we decided to take a visit to Sewage treatment
plant which is situated at our college kongu engineering college, perundurai, erode. We
are especially thankful to Mr. M.M Saravanan, the in charge officer of water treatment
plant because he granted us permission for taking visit at treatment plant and gave the
proper guidance to students and allow to visit for the practical based approach learning
to students.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Treatment plant was setup by our own college to recycle the waste water from
bathroom and sink to garden purpose. The way the treatment process carried out was
simple and efficient method of usage. Thus the way our college awarded as an green
campus in India level. The treatment plant quite smaller than usual one , and will work
only in day time.

PURPOSE OF VISIT
Our main purpose for this visit was to give the practical knowledge about water
treatment plant process. By this visit can be familiar with industrial environment and get
knowledge of different units of waste water treatment plant. Waste Water Engineering
requires knowledge about how components of sewage plant are constructed, so it is very
much convenient to see all the practical and components in real time work environment.

WHAT WE LEARN?
On 1st October, 2019 at 10:25 A.M. we reached at common effluent treatment
plant at ground of Kongu Engineering College. The visit started from the filter tank
where the waste water of hostel and bathroom is collected.

SCREENING
First unit of water treatment plant is filter tank, this is first step in wastewater
treatment process. Screening involves the removal of large objects for example cloths,
plastics etc.,and get out in filter tank

PRIMARY TREATMENT
This process involves the separation of solid matter from the wastewater.
Primary treatment is done by pouring the wastewater into tanks by which solid
settle The remaining water is then pumped for secondary treatment. These treatment
ensure the 75% of treatment is over. But the smell is too heavy and there is no
difference in the smell of influent and effluent . so we can come to know that secondary
treatment process is might required.

SECONDARY TREATMENT
The next step of the treatment process is secondary clarifier. The water from the
primary tank is transported to the secondary clarifier for adding chemicals such as lime
and alum to change or improve the chemical quality of the water. The sludge produced
in the treatment process is removed and these process looks to be bit have a bad odor
everywhere I walk. There we saw a sand filter and carbon filter treatment plant 2
units .it is fully functioned by the pump system and whole treatment is controlled in the
control unit.

Sludge Digestion
Now again to remove the sludge particles the water is passed through the belt
filter press. The purified water is obtained by chemically treating the water coming out
of the belt filter press. In which Chlorine is usually dosed into the treated wastewater.

Aeration Tank
The settled wastewater enters aeration tanks where air is blown into the liquid to
provide oxygen for mixing and to promote the growth of micro-organisms.
Some of this sludge is recycled to the inlet of the aeration tank to maintain the biomass,
hence the name for the process activated sludge. The remainder is pumped to anaerobic
digester for further treatment.

CONCLUSION
From this visit, we get the information and practical knowledge about the
treatment of waste water and components used in treatment plant. And got the
knowledge about detailed process of treatment.
