TOPIC PROPOSAL #2

TS# 1: Although most pro-life advocates in the Philippines argue that abortion is murder, its

legalization in the country would not only help in providing safe procedures on contraception for

women but also giving them a choice in their own body.

Topic Outline:

I. Although abortion in the Philippines is punishable by law and criminalized, it is

common in the country than most people would think.

A. Many Filipinas are forced to induce unsafe and illegal abortion procedures due to rape,

economic reasons, health risks, unplanned and unsupported pregnancies.

B. Because of the inaccessibility to safe abortion procedures, many Filipinas would often

have health complications and even result to death.

II. Legalization of abortion in the country would help in providing quality care and safe

procedures for Filipinas.

A. With healthcare facilities providing these services, Filipinas would minimize

complications and deaths due to unsafe abortion practices.

B. If abortions are legal and not criminalized, prejudices and stigma surrounding it would

also be abolished.

III. The issue of abortion is not of ethics but recognizing women as human beings having

reproductive rights.
AGUILAR 2

A. The criminalization of abortion is hinged on outdated religious and personal prejudices that

aims to stigmatize women for their reproductive rights.

B. Recognizing a woman’s right to access safe abortion and contraception would mean that a

state recognizes their reproductive rights as human.

TS# 2: Using the Filipino language in the academe, such as math, science, and humanities,

would help in communicating information faster among the country’s citizens and also lead

nationalistic and economic development of the country.

Topic Outline:

I. Currently, the English language dominates the academe and has also been a symbol of

social status in the country.

A. Although English is the second language in the country, the Philippines has been

recognized as one of the largest English-speaking nations and uses English as language of

commerce, law, and medium of instruction in education.

B. Gatekeeping of information within the country happens because English is accessible for

those privileged enough to learn it.

II. The introduction of local language in the formal scene would help open up the discourse

on the use of Filipino in the academe and would enrich the terms used in subjects such as

math, science and humanities.

A. Scholars often argue that they cannot use Filipino language in discussing complex topics

due to the lack of terms that would explain their points.

AGUILAR 3

B. Introduction of the local language would help open the discussion on enriching the use of

the language in the academic scene.

III. Countries using their local language in the academe has been shown to improve the

economic state of the country and nationalistic development within their citizens.

A. Neighboring Asian countries may not be as proficient in English in the country but they

have utilized their local language in discussing commerce, law, and the sciences.

B. Because of this, it has shown great improvement with faster information transfer among

their citizens and development of nationalism.

TS # 3: Instead communication during the rise of digital media bringing people closer, it has

brought decrease in real-life human interaction and widening the gap in understanding of people

with various interests.

Topic Outline:

I. The rise of digital media has helped in the accessibility of communication within large

distances and different time zones.

A. Social Media platforms has allowed features to connect people through emanating sense

of vision and hearing in text messaging, video and voice calls.

B. Ease of accessibility that digital media offers has helped in shrinking the gap of online

human interaction across the globe.

II. However, its initial purpose of connecting people seems to be lost when real-life human

interactions have decreased with the ease of communication.

A. Although technology has shown to enhance multiple areas of human interaction, it also

harms real-life human interactions.

AGUILAR 4

B. Decreased quality of real-life human touch and interaction due to the rise of digital

media has been shown to have negative effects on the communication and relationships

people have.

III. Technology has brought a multitude of possibilities in the realm of interaction between

man and different disciplines but there are also negative effects.

A. Communication and information transfer have been made faster due to technology but

has also affected society’s social behavior.

B. It is important to note how these negative signs would affect social human interaction in

the future.
