342 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. “The
Eucharist is the center of the Church founded by Christ. Our Lord Jesus
Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist nineteen hundred years ago; and I hold
that, on the memorable occasion, the thought of you, dear Eucharistic souls,
brought sweet consolation to His most Sacred Heart. Fortunate, indeed, are
the souls called by God to a life of perpetual adoration! Death will be nothing less
than their last act of adoration on earth, one that will go over, without any
interruption, into the eternal and infinitely jubilant adoration in heaven.” Rev. Jose
Guadalupe Trevino. Several hours are waiting for you to begin your life of adoration.
Current vacant hours are: Wednesday 2-3am and Friday midnight-1am and 2-
3am. Please call Joie at 330-745-6852 to consider one of these hours.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Gospel tells us that Jesus “withdrew” when John the Baptist was arrested. It is
important to know when to withdraw. Many disputes at home are about petty things.
We may win an argument but damage the relationship. Knowing when to withdraw
from conflict is the Spirit’s gift of wisdom and the reward in peace.

Many parishioners received letters in January, inviting

their support of the Annual Appeal. Please pray for
the good work of Catholic Charities and make a
pledge today. Your donation makes a difference!
Your support of the 2020 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal will help us serve those individuals
who are most in need and most vulnerable. From Matthew’s Gospel: Whatever you did for the
least of these, you did it for me. When we feed the hungry, take care of the sick, and welcome
the stranger, we are also serving Jesus himself. We appreciate your donation and will take
special care to use it wisely in providing essential programs and services to people in need
throughout all eight counties of the Diocese of Cleveland. We invite you to view stories of
inspiration and more information at CatholicCommunity.org/2020Appeal. To make a donation
today; text CCHOPE to 41444 or visit CatholicCommunity.org/Donate.

Pastors Pick of the Week: “Lectio: Eucharist with Dr. Brant Pitre

Acclaimed author and teacher Dr. Brant Pitre digs down to the biblical roots of the
Eucharist, through its foreshadowing in the miraculous events of the Old Testament, the Gospels,
and Apostolic teaching.

“The Lamb of Life,” “The Body and the Blood of Christ”…these are phrases we know from
the Mass. But do we understand what they mean in the greater and deeper context of Scripture and
Church teaching? We’ll discover firsthand how Christ’s Body and Blood are an integral and
wondrous part of God’s plan for our salvation.
Christ’s Peace!
Fr. David Majikas

This weekend, we take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America! Many
people in Latin America and the Caribbean do not have access to church programs
and ministries because of a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a
shortage of ministers. Your generosity makes it possible for our brothers and sisters
in Latin America and the Caribbean to share in the life of the Church and grow closer
to Christ. Please be generous to the special collection! To learn more, please visit
www.usccb.org/latin-america.

Presentation of the Lord - Candlemas Day, February 2 – represents the entry

of Christ, the light of the world, into the temple of Jerusalem. Bringing the
candle into the home is a sign that Christ is with you in your everyday life.
Candles will be blessed and you are welcome to take one home this weekend.

February 3, Feast of St. Blaise –On the Feast of St. Blaise, it is customary to bless the
throats of the faithful with candles to preserve them from illnesses of the throat.

The BOOK CLUB, initiated by the WOF about four and a-half years ago, has
created its list of reading titles through June of 2020. We would like to invite YOU
(any adult member of the parish) to join us to read all, or one, of the titles listed
below. We meet on the second Thursday at 1:00pm to discuss what we read and
what lessons we’ve learned.
Book choices are: February 13 - Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary (Pitre), March 12 -
O Pioneers (Cather), April 9 - St. Francis of Assisi (Chesterton), May 14 - Educated (Westover)
and June 11-The Alchemist (Coehlo).

conversation is friendly and we always leave each session learning something about the book,
our Faith, and one another. Call Anne Sweeney (330-825-6302) for more information and the
location of the next meetings. If your New Year’s resolution included more books and less TV,

Are you an Active Parishioner?

We receive many requests for parishioners to be godparents or sponsors for the
Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. Part of that request is to be able to verify
that you are an “active member” of our parish. It is difficult to know everyone in a
parish. Therefore, to be considered active, you must:
o Be properly registered & support St. Augustine (call the rectory if you feel
you are not properly registered)
o Have received the three Sacraments of Initiation; Baptism, Eucharist and
Confirmation
o Faithfully attend Mass on Sunday and Holy Days
o (If married) In a marriage relationship recognized by the Church as valid
according to Church Law
o And, use your parish envelopes for donations, even if you are not able to
contribute that week. By placing an envelope in the collection each time
you attend Mass, you are able to show participation.

Each person is assessed individually; the above are the main factors that will be
considered when making a determination. There are many activities around the
church campus, if you wish to participate, keep an eye on the bulletin. If you are
unsure about any of the above, please feel free to contact the rectory during regular
business hours. 330-745-0011.

Vocation Cross Program – St. Augustine has begun the Vocation Cross
Program, sponsored by Women of Faith. Persons/Families will sign up to take
the cross home for a week. During the week they will pray suggested
intentions listed in the box or you can use your own personal intentions. The
cross will be kept in the church on the table under St. Cyril. The box will contain the
Cross, prayers, a video on history of the Rosary, prayer cards/booklets, rosaries and
holy water. Scheduled pick up will be from Friday/Saturday to the following
Friday/Saturday before the 4:00 Mass, so it is available for the next week. Shut-ins that
are unable to attend Mass can also sign up to take the cross. WOF Core members will
deliver/pick up the cross if needed. For more information, please contact Therese
Harper 330-760-5780, Mary Smith 330-882-9417 or Linda Simko 330-814-3898.
