Textbooks:
• Jay L. Devore, Probability and Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences, 9th edition.
Objectives: The students will have an idea about the basic principles of exploratory data analysis and
probability. Students will learn about various probability distributions, statistical inference and linear
models. They will have the opportunities to apply these concepts to the real life data sets using statistical
software.
Software: Minitab / R
2. Chapter 2: Probability
Grading Policy: Homework and quizzes (30%), Midterm 1 (20%), Midterm 2 (20%), Final (30%).

Course Policies:
• Attendance: Regular attendance is essential and expected, the instructor will not take any make up
classes for your absence.
• Exams: No makeup exams or quizzes unless there is some unavoidable circumstances. Student needs
to contact the instructor in advance and provides appropriate documents to schedule a make up exam,
it may add 10% penalties.
Grading Scale: Final letter grades will be assigned according to the following percentages:

Electronic Devices: All electronic devices should be silent during the class time. If you need to answer
an emergency call, please leave the classroom and come back when you are done. No electronic devices are
allowed during the quiz or exam, and there is no exception.
