COURSE SYLLABUS : SOCIAL WORK RESEARCH I

The concepts, processes, approaches, methods and the use of appropriate statistical
tools/operations in social work research.

PRE-REQUISITE : Social Work Statistics

GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Cognitive
1. Discuss the different theories, concepts, processes, approaches and methods of
research in social work.
Affective
1. Discuss and practice basic ethical standards of social work research by:
a. Avoiding plagiarism and performing proper APA citation style
b. Acquiring informed consent and maintaining confidentiality
Psychomotor
1. Practice the APA writing standards focusing on standard format and citation style
2. Demonstrate basic skills in using computer application for data processing and
analysis
3. Prepare and defend a research proposal

-principles of scientific attitude: meritocracy,
healthy skepticism, disinterested, knowledge-
sharing, honesty and openness
- basic ethical consideration in research work:
informed consent, confidentiality, objectivity,
integrity, use of non-sexist or biased language and
culture sensitive sampling.
