1.0 SCOPE OF WORK

This method statement is intended to outline the major activities for the
construction of E-W piperack foundations from coordinates E66101.00 to
E65285.00. The activities include but are not limited to the following; setting
out of works, excavation, ground formation compaction, backfilling /
compaction, concreting of foundation including anchor bolts and damp
proofing installation. There are foundations rest on top of concrete foundation
blocks at main piperack and at south of the main piperack along the cooling
water pipeline. All activities shall be carried out in accordance with relevant
project specifications.

2.0 EXECUTION OF WORKS

2.1 SETTING-OUT OF WORKS
Setting out of works shall be carried-out to the lines and level shown in
the drawings. Permanent setting-out monuments shall be established
in both directions when necessary.

2.2 EXCAVATION, AND BACKFILLING

2.2.1 Excavated materials shall be properly disposed of to the
designated area approved by the client.

2.2.2 Prior to backfilling, ground formation shall be compacted to

meet the 75% of the minimum relative density for granular
materials and 95% of maximum dry density for cohesive soil.
as required by project specifications.

2.2.3 Pipe rack foundations on top of concrete blocks shall be

excavated down to elev.+2.0. This is an individual excavation
and will require dewatering system.

2.2.4 Mass backfilling and compaction shall be carried out to

achieved the design level of the foundations. Bottom of
foundation is generally at El+4.60 and at El+3.80

2.3 MOISTURE BARIER/ MUD MAT CONCRETE

Mud mat concrete of 50mm minimum thickness shall be formed and
potable water cured. Lying of damp proofing membrane (moisture
barrier) of 250 microns above lean concrete.

2.4 FORMWORKS AND REINFORCEMENTS

2.4.1 Formworks shall be accurate, rigid and water tight, fair face
plywood shall be used for concrete smooth surface finish.
Tolerance for hardened concrete shall be +15mm or –6mm
for buried concrete and + or – 3mm for floor slabs and paving
in 3 m.

2.4.2 All concrete exposed corners shall be25 mm chamfered.

2.4.3 Cutting, bending and placement of steel reinforcement shall

be in accordance with the relevant specification
requirements. Concrete cover to reinforcement, including
links or ties in contact with soils shall not be less than 75mm.

2.4.4 Stripping of formworks shall be as specified in project

specification, which is 48 hours from pouring time.

2.5 CONCRETING / CURING / PROTECTIVE COATING

2.5.1 Method of depositing and consolidation of concrete shall be
in accordance with specification B51-S01 (cast-in-place
reinforced concrete)

2.5.2 Wet curing system shall be applied within 2 hours after the
consolidation of concrete and shall continue for a minimum
period of 14 days.

2.5.3 New concrete shall be covered by hessian material and

polyethylene sheets (well secured) to prevent the concrete
from drying during the curing period in accordance with the
manufacturer’s recommendation.

2.5.4 Solvent free, 2 part polyurethane coating to concrete below

grade shall be applied after curing period and 48 hours
drying time shall be observed.

2.5.5 Anchor bolts shall be properly secured into position

before any concrete is placed.

Note: This section of work shall be applicable to concrete pre-casting

works.

2.6 BACKFILLING / COMPACTION

2.6.1 Prior to start backfilling operation, area to be backfilled shall
be clean and free from water and foreign materials.

2.6.2 Piperack foundations shall be backfilled to the line and level

shown in the drawings.

2.6.3 Backfill / compaction shall be carried out in accordance with

the project specifications. (SES C02-S02 and 00-C-0010)

3.0 QUALITY CONTROL AND ASSURANCE

All works shall be carried out in accordance with the approved Project
Quality Plan.

4.0 SITE HEALTH AND SAFETY

All execution of works shall comply with the applicable requirements of the
approved safety plan. Work permits shall be obtained from respective
authorities, when necessary.
