GENERAL RULES:

1st. Always follow instructions.

2nd. The research proposal is a technical literature so it must be formal in style.
3rd. Avoid fancy fonts and formats.
4th. Format the paper in Letter size (short bond paper).
5th. Avoid unnecessary decorations, graphics, symbols, scribbles or doodles.
6th. Content, neatness, punctuality, conformance to instructions and the observance of
the rules of formal technical writing on doing a research proposal are required for
this output.

 GOOD LUCK  GOD BLESS  ENJOY 

INSTRUCTIONS:

 Make an initial draft for your “Scope and Delimitation” and “Background of the
Study”

 Format/Outline – See sample on next pages:

 Use 12-unit font size all throughout the paper
 Double space all text for your line spacing
 Left margins should be 1 ½ inch, while 1 inch for top, bottom and right
margins. The bottom margin may measure more than 1 inch to avoid
“widows” and “orphans.” These are incomplete lines, as those beginning or
ending a paragraph, carried over to the top of a new page.

 Deadline - Must be submitted in Microsoft Word Document format (soft copy)

on or before 11:59 am (midnight), March 15, 2018 (Friday) to the following e-mail

Title of the Research: RECYCLED WASTE THERMOPLASTICS AND

PLANT TRIMMINGS AS ALTERNATIVE

CLADDING MATERIAL

(Your title is the distinctive name given to the research

proposal, which describes the scope of work in specific,
clear and concise terms. Must not be more than 12 words.)

Background of the Study

(This refers to the problems both general and specific which the research
proponent hopes to solve or offer solution. See sample below.)

As a non-structural covering, cladding protects a structural surface and improves

its insulation and appearance. Through technology, materials utilized now for such

functions widely vary on features and appearance. However, the intensive use of natural

resources particularly stone and wood continues, which significantly contributes to the

alarming depletion of Earth’s natural resources. This urged the researchers to seek for an

alternative and sustainable cladding material which would help lessen if not completely

eliminate the use of our decreasing natural resources for such purposes. After the

researchers delved into complex ideas, they finally came up with a simple solution – the

recycle of waste plastics and plant trimmings as an alternative cladding material – which
ii

aims to invert the unfavourable decrease of our natural resources and the detrimental

increase of garbage particularly plastic waste.

According to the designbuild-network website, external cladding is a "protective,

insulated or aesthetic fixed layer added to the exterior walls of a building" (Burns). Wall

cladding both decorates and weatherizes home exteriors (Kalmus). It basically improves

the appearance and insulation value of any building. It is composed of a variety of

building materials and made to tolerate extreme weather conditions. The materials cover

the building but do not contribute to its structural integrity. Because wall cladding does

not support a roof's weight, you can choose any material as long as it is not too heavy for

the wall's components that support the roof (Bianca). While builders predominantly

install it on exterior surfaces of buildings and structures, it can also be used to improve

any interior surface.

Wall cladding is easy to install over all existing surfaces, including weatherboard;

an entire home can be completed in under a week. Wall cladding hides imperfections in a

structure's finish and works well as an insulator with existing wall and roof insulation. It

also serves as a noise insulator and, if installed properly, resists termites, moisture and

fire (Kalmus). It guards against bacteria, insect infestation and dust mites, which can

otherwise cause destruction to your home. Wall cladding lasts a long time with minimal

maintenance required as compared to painting. It requires nothing more than regular

washing to maintain its newness. Most cladding comes with lifetime warranties of up to

50 years.

Materials and colors are often selected to give the home a specific look, or to

complement the architectural design of a building (Beach). Many different looks can be
iii

evoked including a traditional, innovative, historical or luxurious feel (Herlihy). While

homeowners usually devote serious thought on how to cover their home's interior walls,

its exterior walls deserve at least equal consideration since they provide the first

impression that guests and passersby receive of the house and can seriously affect your

property value.

Cladding also protects the home from rain, wind and other weather-related

elements (Beach). It often provides some level of insulation against thermal transfer and

air leaks. Temperature fluctuations are minimized therefore creating a much more

efficient wall assembly and dramatically reducing the loads on HVAC systems.

Scope and Delimitation

(This includes the coverage of the study, the subjects, the research apparatus,
equipment or instrument, the research issues and concerns, the duration of the
study, and the constraints that have direct bearing on the result of the study. See a
short sample below.)
This research is focused on the evaluation of the attributes, production of a

prototype and assessment on the feasibility of an alternative cladding material made up of

discarded thermoplastics and trimmings from plants.

It is limited and dependent on existing and acceptable theories; availability of

reference materials; availability of the needed components for the product; availability of

proper facilities, apparatuses, equipment, tools and instruments; ethical considerations;

health of the researchers; resources and time constraints.
