Using DSLR Nikon D5300

START UP THE CAMERA

1. Take the Camera out of the Case


2. Wear the Neck Strap

3. Open the Lens Cap


a. Press the front of lens cap slowly and take it out. Keep the lens cap in camera bag. If you
keep in your pocket, it will fall out many times.

4. Switch on the Camera


a. Press the switch on button carefully and turn clockwise to ON position.
5. Open the Lens Lock
a. Press the round button near the number 24 on the lens, and while it is pressed, turn
slowly it to your right to disengage the lens lock. After that don’t press this button till
you need to ulock the lens next time.

6. Check the Dial Settings


a. See if the dial is set to AUTO pointing to the white mark on the left side of the round
dial.

7. Support the Camera


a. Place the camera in your open left hand as below. NEVER GRIP the camera using left
hand. Just give support with OPEN LEFT HAND as a stable platform.
8. Aim at the scene
a. Look through the view finder. This is the best way. Also the camera works faster.

b. Open the LED Panel slowly and gently turn it as required to see properly. This is
convenient but the camera takes more power and works a bit slowly in this mode.

9. Adjust the Zoom if needed


a. If you need to zoom in for portrait photos, turn the zoom ring as shown below to right;
for zoom out for landscape photos, turn left.
10. Click Half for Autofocus
a. Place our right hand point finger on the click button [big round silver button].
b. Press very lightly.
c. If the image is not displayed, gently click the flip lever [Lv is written on it] towards you as
below.

11. Press the Click Button to Take the Picture


a. When ready, using right hand point finger, press the click button slowly.
b. Click sound will indicate that picture is taken.
c. To see the picture, press play button near the LED screen. You can use + and – buttons
at bottom to magnify or reduce the image for viewing.
d. If you are not sure the picture is not proper click again.

12. Taking Video


a. Taking video is not recommended as it takes lot of power from battery. Use mobile
phone for general videos.
b. If video is required instead of click button press the red button near it to start the video
recording.
c. To stop recording, press the button once more.
d. Make sure that the video recording is off and then only shut down the camera.
e. Do not take video when battery is low. The camera may shut down and video will be
lost.

SHUT DOWN THE CAMERA

1. Switch off the Camera


a. Turn the ON OFF switch to left side to take to off position.

2. Lock the Lens


a. Rotate the zoom ring to left till the lens withdrawn and is locked by the camera. Locking
the lens is automatically done by camera.

3. Close the Lens Cap


a. Take the lens cap and press the clip to cover the lens. Make sure that lens cap is fixd in
its position.

4. Put Camera back in Case

OTHER

1. Charging the Battery


a. If battery indicator shows red, the shut down the camera
b. Open the Battery Compartment
c. Take out the battery

d. Put it in Charger, with battery pins aligned to charger pins

e. Charge for 2 hours or till the indicator stops blinking


f. Make sure the camera On button is in OFF position
g. Put the Battery back in Compartment in proper way as indicated with arrow.
2. Dos and Don’t Dos
a. When in use wear the neck belt all the time. It is easy for camera to slip from your hand.
b. Don’t grip the lens with your hand. Give freedom for camera to move the lens for
autofocus.
c. Don’t change zoom while taking photo or video.
d. Don’t keep the camera on for long time
e. Don’t keep the camera outside the case
f. Don’t hang the camera on your shoulder when not in use. Put in the bag and hang the
bag on your shoulder.
g. Don’t change the settings.
h. Don’t touch other buttons. The settings might change. Right now the camera is set for
autofocus with image stabilization.
i. Don’t expose the camera to sun for long time.
j. Don’t expose the camera to water or rain. If water falls on lens wipe with a soft cloth
immediately.

3. Copying Photos
a. If possible copy the photos and share only at end of trip. There is 32 GB of space in the
memory card. That is approximately 10,000 photos.
b. If it is absolutely necessary to copy or the SD card is full, then do as below.
c. Open the Memory Card Compartment.

d. Press the Memory Card inward slightly. It will pop out.


e. Take the card and close the compartment
f. Copy to computer / mobile using Card reader
g. If required delete the files from memory card
h. Put the memory card back in compartment in proper direction as below
