2.1 - Self-diagnosis of control unit for seat adjustment with memory function

2.2 - General notes

Measures for rectifying commonly occurring faults on particular models

=> Technical Service Handbook

The new generation of seat adjustment systems with memory function has self-diagnosis capability. The control
unit for seat adjustment with memory function incorporates a fault memory.

Any faults which occur in the monitored components/wiring are stored in the fault memory with details of the
type of fault.

If any adjustment components are replaced the new components must be adapted and a basic setting must be
initiated => Page 16 .

Test requirements:

◆ Voltage supply and fuses for the relevant systems OK.

=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-Finding and Fitting Locations

◆ Connecting V.A.G 1551 fault reader => Page 1

◆ Switch ignition on.

Notes:
◆ If the display remains blank, check voltage supply to V.A.G 1551 according to current flow diagram.
◆ Additional operating instructions can be called up with the fault reader HELP key.
◆ The ⇒ key is used for the continuation of the program sequence.
◆ If an incorrect entry is made, press key C to escape.

printer of V.A.G 1551 switched on.
◆ If a fault occurs only occasionally or if the fault memory is not erased after the fault remedy has been carried
out, the fault will appear on the display as a "sporadically occurring fault" (SP). On the right side of the display
of the V.A.G 1551 a "/SP" appears and the fault light remains on.
