Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for the opportunity.

Debate about Abolish National Testing. National tests are standardized to decide whether students
will continue to the next level of education. This exam has the same level of difficulty for rural and
urban students. Ironically there are still schools in Indonesia, especially those in rural areas that do not
receive the same level of education as those in urban center such as Jakarta and surabaya. National
exams are never a tool for gaining knowledge and can never define one's intelligence or abilities, each
student has their own interests, talents, and standards.

To prove this case, we will present two arguments:

1) In terms of fairness: National testing does not provide justice for students because every school has
unequal educational standards and the world of education in Indonesia, why students must determine
their future with only a three-day test, each student has interests, talents, and standards they
themselves, it is unfair if national exams become a mandatory standard if they want to pass.

2) In Psychological / health matters: National tests take a toll on a student’s body and mind through
the forms of stress and anxiety because students only think that test scores can affect their future lives.
Stress has harmful effects such as suicide, self-esteem and student's might end up in a mental
institution.

Argument #1

• (A) We should support the Abolish National Testing because (in terms of the Fairness): the
education in the rural cannot be compared to education in urban center that’s unfair
and each student have their own standard in skill, intelligent and abilities

• (R) Under the same logic, The purpose of education is to provide the opportunity for
students to gain knowledge from both inside and outside the classroom provided by
resources such as teachers, peers, the internet, and books. Such knowledge cannot
accurately be measured by a three day round of tests.

• (E) For the example According to Gardner’s theory of Multiple intelligences there different
types of learners such as bodily-kinesthetic or spatial learners. Also, the National
Exam does not make educational accommodations for special needs students who
have mild to moderate cognitive or physical impairments.

• (L) That’s why we should Abolish National Testing because national testing are not reliable and
fair of gauging the ability of the student and it is impossible to set the question at the same
difficulty
Argument #

• (A) We should support the Abolish National Testing because (in terms of the Psychological
/ health): the student feel depressed and worried about how well they will do, and they often
compare themselves to other students and worry about if they will do as well as their friends.
When study begins, it often doesn't stop till midnight, thus leaving the student sleep deprived
the next day, it also stops the student from taking in what they are studying.

• (R) Under the same logic, Exams do not provide the best possible way for students to retain
information. What ends up happening is they learn of pages of information for their exam
and end up forgetting it after. Personally I think that continuous assessment would rid of this
problem and cause students to properly commit the information to memory .

• (E) For the example According Monday, 16 april 2012, Hendry Kusria a student in SMK
BNKP Sirambu Nias. Dead while be was doing the national examination. Secretariat
of minister of education in north Sumatera provincesay that he was dead because have
a complication discasise are brochitis, lier and impertence forfrom before national
examinationbeheld

• (L) That’s why we should Abolish National Testing because national testing are not reliable and
fair of gauging the ability of the student and it is impossible to set the question at the same
difficulty
