What’s so difficult about e-commerce sales forecast?

The Challenges:

1. Trend-Seasonality-Residual : 50-30-20 does not apply on


e-commerce predictions and almost every supply chain
planning tool uses this as a basic assumption.
2. Ability to handle NLP, image, video data is missing
3. Ecommerce requires Hourly/Daily/Weekly/Monthly forecast as
opposed to monthly/quarterly forecasts required in offline
models.

We Have Forecasted For:

Extremely volatile demand being in the cosmetics industry we were


faced with building a uniform demand forecasting platform across
their e-commerce channels. Accuracy before us (average) - 30% with
negative bias of 15%. Current (using Mateverse) - 54% with negligible
bias.

Extremely high number of SKUs, with daily changing prices across


different platforms. They were looking for resilient, scalable platform
which can gauge the impact of various drivers on their SCM planning
on a weekly basis.

Being a B2B Ecommerce platform, pricing is highly dependent on


various factors like size of the company, quantity of order, type of SKU,
geography, taxes, government rebates, competitor’s pricing, past
relationship with the customer, we delivered a personalized price
recommendation engine which would work at 10L queries / day.
