Breastfeeding Products

While breastfeeding requires much less

maintenance than bottle feeding with formula there
are still a few products you will want to have on hand.

Breast Pads: Somehow with my first child I didn’t need

to use breast pads after the first month. I have no idea
how this is possible especially after learning that I have
such an oversupply, but its true. When I was exclusively
pumping with my second child I used the Lansinoh
disposable breast pads. I tried to space out my
pumping sessions as much as I could which meant I
would leak more often. The disposable pads worked
best for me since I would sometimes go through
multiple sets in a day. Now with my third child I use
reusable breast pads. Disposables are expensive and
the cost adds up quickly. Since I am nursing on
demand and my supply has regulated I do not leak
very much so the reusable breast pads work well for
me. I have 9 sets so that I can wash them once a week
and not run out. Here are the ones I use: Lansinoh
Disposable, Reusable Nursing Pads

Nipple Cream: This is a must have for the first few weeks
when you are getting used to breastfeeding. Even if
you have breastfeed before there is always an
adjustment period with a new baby (or at least for me
there is) so having this cream will help to prevent any
cracks or soreness.

Breastfeeding Bracelet: With my first I had a silicone

bracelet that I wore to help me remember which side I
had nursed on last and what time I had last fed the
baby. Those first few weeks of motherhood are busy
learning a lot of new things and you haven’t regained
all of the brain cells you gave to baby. This is the
bracelet I had but if you purchase the gift set from
uddercovers one is included. MilkBands bracelet

Nursing Cover: This is not a necessity for everyone but

for me it is. I prefer to be covered up in public when I
nurse. I am not ashamed of breastfeeding. I do not
cover up because I am intimidated by the ignorant
people that try to claim it is wrong to breastfeed in
public. I cover up for me. These beauties are for my
baby and my husband….no one else.
www.uddercovers.com has some nice covers and you
can usually obtain a coupon code to only pay
shipping. My personal favorite though are hooter
hiders. I really like the stiff band that allows me to
always be able to see my baby while I am feeding.

Breast Pump: This is another item that is not a necessity

but will make breastfeeding easier. Sometimes mom
needs alone time and it is helpful to be able to pump a
bottle and leave baby with a loved one for an hour
while you go grocery shopping or to the park to enjoy
the quiet. If you will only be pumping occasionally then
a manual pump will work just fine. If you are planning
on returning to work or pumping on a more regular
basis (even once a week) I highly recommend getting
a double electric pump. I use the Medela Pump In Style
and it has been great for what I need.
Milk Storage Bags: When I was exclusively pumping with
my second child I tried out tons of milk storage bags.
My favorite ended up being the lansinoh bags. I like
that they were easy to fill, easy to remove air from, and
could be laid flat to freeze so I could store more bags
together than if they were frozen standing up.
