Solutions – Child abuse in the sex industry (Switzerland)

The situation of children who leave their country of origin to Switzerland is the main reason why
trafficking and sexual exploitation happen in our State, but the provisional solution we have taken is to
keep these young people who are looking for a new place to live, as young refugees under administrative
detention, we know that the International Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes this measure
as a last resort, but it is a very serious problem and that is why we must use this last resort instead of
putting young people at risk by staying on the streets and becoming a focus for those who want to take
advantage of them.

As a second solution, we propose that the youngest be listened to so that they have greater power
of participation, since if they do not have these spaces, they become vulnerable by getting involved in
criminal or harmful activities; this is why we see the need to consult children and young people about
their experiences and, if possible, find solutions that can be implemented as State policies.

It will always be important to raise awareness in children, that no one should touch them without
their consent, or take pictures, also parents should be very aware of what their children see on the
Internet, always take care of them, are campaigns that must permeate each person and not leave them, it
is necessary to maintain them during the years that pass.

Speech Switzerland – Child abuse in the sex industry

Thank you very much Presidency for giving the word to the delegation of the Swiss Confederation and it
is through your honorable investiture that we will proceed to expose our position regarding the topic in
matter.

Our delegation is deeply concerned by the situation children are experiencing regarding abuse in the sex
industry. We share our concerns about the threat this industry involve to infants. Due to its rapid and
massive dissemination, this situation not only affects countries individually, but also the entire
international community.

At the root of the commercial sexual exploitation of children in many countries lies poverty, the inability
of rural and urban families to support and educate their children.

Commercial sexual exploitation is one of the most brutal forms of violence against children. Child
victims suffer extreme physical, psychosocial and emotional abuse which have lifelong and life-
threatening consequences.

That is why Switzerland has the job of making sure that its laws are enforced and in this way helping the
rest of the global population so that child abuse can be stopped and child pornography can no longer be
distributed.
Children guess which people love them. It is a natural gift that is lost over time. -Charles Paul de Kock-
