The solar cells are placed directly behind the globe's graphics, hidden out of sight. Because most of the
ambient light is blocked by the graphics, our solar cells are carefully designed to produce an efficient
amount of energy even with a compromised light source.
Counter-Torque
The motion mechanism needs a source of counter-torque to sustain the continuous rotation. Similar
to how a compass needle points to magnetic north and remains in place as you turn the compass,
the MOVA Globe’s magnet reacts to the Earth’s magnetic field, with the interaction causing the
magnet to remain still while the motion mechanism pivots and turns the entire inner globe.
The motion mechanism design is at least an order of magnitude lower friction than current motors
used in consumer applications. This makes it possible for the mechanism to rotate in complete
silence with extremely low power in the micro watt range (a micro watt is one millionth of a watt).
An almost imperceptible thin layer of fluid is key to the inner globe's ability to awaken in light, levitate
freely, and turn continuously without ever touching the outer shell.
The optical parameters of the micro-volume fluid and the distance between the two spheres are
precisely designed to project the turning graphics of the inner globe onto the outer shell, providing
the illusion of a single globe turning on the stand and defying the laws of physics. This also allows the
MOVA Globe to turn on any surface (except for those made of magnetizable metal, such as iron).
