This document provides details for an interior design studio project from January to April 2020. 3rd Year Design Studio (VI Semester) January-April, 2020 Introduction: A space or interior designer, practices a discipline, that looks after designing all aspects of the interiors space making therefore this studio focuses to develop a deep understanding of habitable spaces amongst the students. The studio aims to develop a deep understanding of space composition and decoding the effect of interior spaces on user behaviour and psyche. The students will be introduced to various elements of interiors spaces and analyse their effects. They will be exposed to various case studies and design exercises to develop the good aesthetic sense with functionality at core, also the students will be asked to highlight the contextual elements in various design outcomes. The interactions will be done to emphasis on micro detailing of spaces like furniture, reflective false ceiling, vertical elements- walls or partitions, flooring, colour theory, textures, materials and services (HVAC, electrical and lighting). The effects of special elements in a space like water body, indoor garden, special fittings or fixtures, use of textile, sculptures, artistic decorative elements or other art works will also will emphasised on. At the end of this studio exercise students will be able to evaluate their knowledge on the professional practice grounds of space or interior designers.
Studio Project details:
Students will be asked to select a residence plan (probably the one they detailed in their last semester working drawing). They will be asked to present their work on following stages for all the main rooms/spaces (max-3 & min-2) in the residence. 1- Stage 1 - Submission Date 17th Jan 2020 Conceptual interior layout and design. In this stage they will be ask to develop the conceptual idea of a space in terms of layout composition, purpose, budget, space character, ambience, functionality, user comfort, psychological and behaviour parameters, wellbeing and safety of consumers, demographic/ climatic parameters, lifestyle preferences, desired aesthetic and theme. Deliverable sheets with drawing and sketching. Individual work - 10 Marks 2- Stage 2 - Submission Date 7th Feb 2020 Detailing of the following- Furniture, Reflective false ceiling, vertical elements- walls or partitions, flooring, colour theory, textures, materials and services (HVAC, electrical and lighting). Deliverable sheets with working drawings Individual work - 20 Marks 3- Stage 3 - Submission Date 21st Feb 2020 Presentation of design The students have to create sample board material boards with rendered final interior drawings of each space. They must also have a fair knowledge of the final costing of the selected materials with quantity of application. Deliverable sheets & sample material boards. Individual work - 20 Marks
Final submission of problem with all deliverable’s working drawing sheets, material sample boards, rendered views & presentation sheets –27th March 2020.
