Gantt Chart - Constructing a Logical Plan

This is our Gantt chart. We planned this according to our submission date and divide our work.
This helped us divide our time equally and manage and help us meet deadlines. We tried to
follow this completely but there were times where we could not complete the day’s work so we
did it the next day. Overall this guided us through what we have to do systematically.

Criteria B - Developing Ideas

B1) Develop a Design Specification.

● The CAD project should clearly showcase the object that we created and the viewers
should be able to make out what it is.
● The work presented should be neat without any unfinished edges.
● The images should impress the audience looking at the complexity of the 3D design
● It should bring about new ideas of CAD that aren’t commonly known.
● The designs should be aesthetically pleasing and well organized, so as to attract more
viewers. It should follow a certain colour scheme, and be organized in a way that makes
sure viewers aren’t confused.
● The designs should really represent the model we hoped to achieve through the
software.
● The project should have an accurate scale to that in real life [scale=±10m(1: 100)]
● The project should be easily comprehensible by most hybrid viewpoints.
● The project should have a minimum of 5 objects/structures.

Hardware Specifications
MacBook Pro 2017 As we both share mutual laptops we think that it
will be the most viable to use this laptop. other
than that this laptop also carries the latest liquid
Retina display which will give us a much clearer
image in terms of colour and contrast of our
designs.

Paper and Pencil In order to attain success, our team believes

that it is pivotal to have a rigid and flexed
planning structure. In order to do so, we will
be starting with a rough sketch of all our
objects/structures. To make a rough sketch
find it the most resourceful and practical to
use a simple pencil and paper as we are not
very professional with an iPad as neither of us
owns a stylist. we will be using the Faber-
Castell Grip 2011 Mechanical Pencil as the
width is quite thick which can give our

2
]\

sketches a 3D effect . we will be using a

classic a4 size paper as it is quite thick and
rigid.
3D Printer After our designs are completed and approved we
will be printing them out using a 3D printer to
showcase our products

Software Specifications
Tinkercad.com This software will be used to create our final CAD designs

Mac So Mojave This software will be run of the MacBook

Logo Maker.com We used this website to create our logo

TeamGantt.com We used this website to create our Gantt chart which helped us manage
our time and meet our deadlines.

Apple Pages We used this application to create our rough sketches, using shapes,
lines etc.

Google Docs This add-on by Google helped us work together when we were in
different places and helped us combine our work. My colleague and I
were able to edit the document simultaneously.

Apple Airdrop This add-on by Apple helped us share our work easily

Canvas Made our final sketches on Canvas due to the ease of access

Draw.io This is an amazing prototyping software we will be using for our

fair/final sketches as It is free, user-friendly, and easy to use. also, we
can easily export it to drive which can help enhance partner
communication

SUCCESS CRITERIA

There is a success criterion in order to help us evaluate which cad design is the
most suitable for the given topic and the best one that meets the expectations of
our client. We will be evaluating ourselves on basis of our designs. There will be
several aspects and approaches to different elements which we ourselves would
be grading our designs on, whichever has the highest marking and is most
relevant will be chosen and thus further worked on.

3
]\

We will also be judging strands of criterion B to compare the sketches and the
final sketch to meet the product requirements to further go on to evaluate our
final products.

The CAD designs should be easily understandable by our audience

The CAD designs should be simple to view
The CAD designs should showcase our theme or our topic of which we have based
the product on
The CAD designs should contain informative and interactive content in it thus
making the audience more interested
The CAD designs should look realistic while having colour coordinated schemes
around the objects
The CAD designs should not miss out on the main aspects and in the end, it should
end up in the required certain shape or size.
The CAD designs should be as creative as possible and should be created using
shapes and our imaginative thoughts and no online reference for the 3D design
The process of making the CAD designs should be organized and all elements of
the design should be locked and kept neat and organized.

B2) Develop Design Ideas

We strongly believe that a precise and consistent plan plays a vital role in order to sculpt a
spectacular product. In order to achieve excellence in our product, we strive to withhold a
concise yet precise plan where we will be taking steps that will both give us a clear goal while
making them Computer-aided design as well as showcase our process in an informative and
chronological method.

Rough sketches

My colleague and I made rough sketches to enhance our ideas and have better organizational
skills. We put down our initial ideas on paper and then worked on them further. We used our
success criteria and grades our sketches out of 10 to get a clearer view of our sketches. Here are
images of rough sketches and their explanations:
We strongly believe to inculcate most of these aspects in our sketches and explanations.
● The inspiration for the product
● The creation of the product
We will also use our success criteria to assess these sketches to help us know our product better.

Sr.no Delineation Explanation and Inspiration

1. The Hogwarts Express:-

● This will be a classic antique old
age steam engine from the early
19th-century (1804).
● This engine is inspired by the series
of the novel that revolutionized the
way the world believed in fantasy.
The Harry Potter Series.
● We plan this train to be an exact
replica of the the 5997 Hogwarts
express.

2. Quidditch stadium:-

This is the game field of our school

campus. , it is a Quidditch stadium
introduced in the flagship movie of the WB
film production, Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer's Stone. It has 6 scoring points in
total 3 for each team . our field will also
have a fort shaped surrounding which will
accommodate the audience. I do feel that
we can improvise a lot in this and add
some major details

3. This is our 3rd major structure, is the outer

view of the dorm the students in the
campus will be living in. it will be a 4-floor
building which will have 4 big rooms, one
cafe, one dorm room, one Lightroom and
one Lightroom. which will consist of solar
panels which will power the rooms.
This design consists of what we are
planning to do and I feel like it is missing
out on major details of what we are trying
to create.

4. This was our initial sketch of the castle and

it was a basic castle made of bricks and it
didn't have much to it. It lacked basic
details and it did not look like a castle at
all. Hriday and I spoke about this and the
features of what we can do to improve
this. So we decided that we would add like
a roof on top of it so it looks like a proper
fancy castle

As we were judging our products we came to conclusion that there was a lot more
to add so we decided to make rough sketches 2
Rough Sketch’s Part 2

Sr.no Delineation Explanation and Inspiration

1. The Hogwarts Express:-

● This train had more details this
time. It contained details like the
wheel rims and it showcased what
the two smaller rims were
● It contained new designs such as
the pipes that were added on the
sides to make it look good

2. Quidditch stadium:-

In the sketch 2 of the quidditch stadium

there were new designs such as the grass
and the stadium seats were added. Also
we decided that we would go with a castle
brick design with this as it would look very
royal.

3. Student rooms
In this we added details such as the
dustbin as we felt that even the smallest
details matter and we tried to make the
sketch more fine

4. We added great detail to the castle as we

felt that it was lacking out on major things
We also put an entrance in this as we felt
that without an entrance how can it be a
building.

Final sketches/Presenting chosen designs

These are the final sketches we came up with and they are an exact representation of what we
were going to make.

Sr.no Delineation Explanation and Inspiration

1. This is our final sketch for the quidditch

stadium. It contains all the details required
for the stadium including the seats and the
golden era design of blocks thus making it
look appealing. We’ve also added curves
and bricks to the stadium giving it an old
fancy look.

2. This is an exact representation of what the

kind of train we were going to make looks
like. It contains fine details and it also
consists of the number plate of the train
that is in real life.
It also consists of rims and details in the
front tires.
It also has pipes that make it look fancy

9
]\

3. This is the final model of the castle. It

contains layers of brick that have been
rotated to create a new unique design.
On top we have a cone type structure that
gives it a stylish look to the castle. It is also
surrounded by walls on 4 sides as it is an
ancient structure given a modern look.

4. We decided that is only going to be our

final sketch as it contains everything we
need.
It also has both the cafeteria and the
classroom and contains details on the
work of the chair.

B4) Develop planning drawings/ diagrams

This helps to graphically represent our ideas and concepts. It is a visual thinking tool that helps in
structuring concepts and information. As simple as it seems, it helped us to analyse, synthesize,
comprehend and create new ideas in a better and more organised format or manner. Mind maps always
help us enhance our work in a proper and systematic way. We decided to make one and mention all our
web pages and all that they include in brief. This is the mind map my colleague and I made to make it
simpler for us to work and explain our web gallery. This diagram presents our website in a concise
manner and easy to understand. Like seen, we have demonstrated and stated the possible features that
we will be including throughout our building of the product.

CRITERIA D- EVALUATING
D1) Design testing methods

SELF EVALUATING

CRITERION GRADE EXPLANATION

B- DEVELOPING 6/8 Here we put in visual representations of each of our sketches and elaborated on it
IDEAS effectively and gave detailed answers. We mentioned all the sketches and explained
them for the viewer, and help them understand what the point of our web page is. We
self- assessed our sketches and then came up with a final one. We looked at the best
possible sketch and then used that one.

C- CREATING THE 7/8 For creating the solution we used the most creative parts of our minds to come up
SOLUTION with imaginary representations of objects and create those objects. We used creative
skills and put in a lot of hard work to come up with the products. We also used all the
possible tools given to us to help us adjust and come up with really good products.

D- EVALUATING 6/8 Our self-evaluation areas were done with complete detail whereas the impact and the
success of the product weren’t done with full information due to lack of time. We
made sure to choose professionals for white box testing and people who know
nothing about CAD. We asked them valid questions so that they can give us interactive
answers.

Questions asked to the interviewees:

Were the designs created looked physically appealing?
Do you think that such structures could be the future of the world?
Where do you think we could’ve improved?
Overall, do you think out time was well managed?

White Box Testing:

1. Name: Subhasis Yadav; Age: 36; Profession: Device designer

In his opinion, he is a device designer so he is very good at CAD and in his words, he thinks that the
designs were great and that they have been given extreme details that make it stand out. He says that
such designs are the future of the modern worlds and that they not only have special features but are
physically appealing to the human eye and bring out the WOW in anyone.

2. Name: Mangesh Kanakia; Age: 36; Profession: Interior Designer

I have been in this field of developing an interior design for homes and I think that what matters outside
in buildings is as important in inside. So when I saw these designs that Hriday and Josh showed me I was
shocked at ] how such young minds are creating such complicated designs on CAD. Then as I was
observing their work I saw how much detail they have put in. I do feel they could have chosen much
more attractive colours to represent their work but overall it was very good.

Black Box Testing:

3. Name: Ritika Thakur; Age: 18; Profession: College Student ( Studying Arts)

These works were unbelievable. I can imagine such a place only in my dreams and not actually
seeing this come to life. Especially the castle and the train, the number of details that were put
in it was very good. I do feel that the choice of colours they choose could have been better but
otherwise, it was very good and I don't think that it could’ve been any better.

I liked these designs they were unique and gave an old age plus a modern look to it. I see that they have
used extreme details to the designs. They could have worked more on their colour scheme otherwise I
found it really pleasing to the eye and that I would wish I could live in such a building.

HR Reflection

This unit had been one that’s based on off our thinking skills, practical application, teamwork,
and above all creativity and balance. This was a new field of design for both of us and we were
confused at first of what we have to do but gradually we both helped each other and taught
each other the skills we learned. We also had to write a design journal based on the product
and that was tough as both of us are not very good at making a journal. The journey was not
entirely easy, it was tedious, it took time, effort and a great deal of patience, but after all this,
we came to a well-designed, well-executed product that exceeds our expectations. Both of us
had to be coordinated at all times as if we miss our deadline then it would’ve impacted on the
quality of the work as then we had to rush it. Through the journey, we learned so many new
things such as time management, coordination, and trust between each other. We both had
high expectations on the product and how it would turn out as we both were interested in this
field of learning and thus we thought that if we combine our minds we would come up with a
great product. The tough part about this journey was to brainstorm on the ideas and to come
up with a logical plan after this part was over we had to look at various ways we could come up
with the structure. Thinking about how to use the parts was also a tough part as we could
create a lot of different unique shapes with it.
We both suffered through time management and meeting deadlines but in the end, we finished
it. We both felt that the products were very good as they were pleasing to the eye and it
showcased our hard work.
Working together gave us a new experience and helped us grow as individuals as well as within
ourselves.

PERSONAL REFLECTION - Jash

Personally, I feel that this unit was great as I learned a lot of new things in this unit. When this
unit was announced I got really excited as I was interested in such things. I had then decided
that I would very hard to achieve very good grades. When I was partnered up with Hriday I was
very excited as both of liked CAD but one thing we had in common was that both of us were not
very good with making journals. But what we decided that we would work very hard to achieve
good grades. I learned Ib learner profiles such as learner and thinker as this was an entirely new
learning and creative experience that required us to think, imagine and create. I do feel that are
a lot of areas of improvements in the journal but with the limited time we had we have done a
good job at representing a few of our best works. Hriday and I have coordinated very well as we

15
]\

both have balanced and divided our work equally and we didn’t face major issues on the way.
This unit has helped us explore the creative minds in ourselves.

D3- Explain how the solution could be improved

We’ve put in a lot of work in coming up with a solution. Our final product turned out the way
we expected it to be but there is always a scope for improvement’s as nothing is perfect and I
personally felt that we could have improved in certain places.
As first time following a journals requirement’s I feel that we have somewhat accomplished the
task and have met the tasks requirements with regards to the details that the task required. I
also feel that we have learned a lot from our black box and white box interviews as they gave us
an honest opinion about our pictures and our CAD designs. I feel that when they were talking to
us about the improvements I felt on the spot that I have made silly errors that I could have
exchanged anytime but I overlooked it not taking in so much detail. We felt that we were
working correctly but when they gave us their piece of mind I did feel that we could have made
some minor changes here and there. The main aspect that I would have wanted to improve on
is our time management skills. We weren’t able to manage our time very effectively and I felt
like I could improve on it.
I also feel that we have achieved our target and followed the Gantt chart to what we could. We
were a few days behind in the Gantt chart but as time went on we overtook our target and we
were back on track.
The work which we did was not always final we always kept looking for scope of improvements
here and there and I think we could have worked better on that as we could have done the
work once but properly so no changes would’ve been required.
• Organizing time
• Meeting deadlines
• Working efficiently
• Creating targets

16
]\

Criterion D4- Explain the impact of the solution

This solution hasn’t made impact on anyone’s lives yet but what we see in the solution is the
future of the world as we are the creative young minds that are going to shape the future.
We have demonstrated the used of CAD in our work and have shown how creative we can get
with it.
We have created new types of buildings and have expressed our creativity in all of the
buildings.
This platform called tinkercad has allowed given us a new way to express our products and take
designing to a new level.

Thank You
