I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners have an understanding of…
 poetry as a genre and how to analyze its elements and techniques

B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to…


 produce a short, well-crafted poem
C. Learning Competencies / At the end of the session, learners are expected to:
Objectives.  Identify the various elements, techniques, and literary devices in fiction.
Write the LC code for each (HUMSS_CW/MP11/12c-f-6)

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to;


a. Identify the different literary devices.
b. Appreciate the use of the literary devices in reading and writing fictional
texts.
c. Create a poem using the literary devices in reading and writing fictional text.

V. PROCEDURES
Introductory Activity  Morning Prayer
(3 minutes)  Establishing Rapport to students through academic chit-chat
Activity/Strategy “Guess What?”
(5minutes) The teacher will scramble the words and provide the definition of the given word
and some examples.Then, let the students guess what word was being scrambled.
1. ismeli (simile) - indirect comparison between 2 unlike objects using the words
“like” and “”as.”
Example: She is as beautiful as Venus Raj.
2. porhtame (metaphor) - a direct comparison of 2 unlike things without the use of
“like” and “as.”
Example: Your brain is a computer.
3. perhylebo (Hyperbole) - an overstatement or exaggeration that can be used for
dramatic effect or to help paint a word picture.
Example: I’m dying of hunger.
4. soncatiperonifi (personification) - an inanimate object or animal is given human
qualities or characteristics.
Example: The leaves are dancing.
5. notomapooeia (Onomatopoeia) - use of words whose sounds seem to imitate the
sound of the object or action being named.
Example: The birds are chirping.
Analysis (5 minutes) The teacher will ask the following questions:

 How did you find the activity?


 What are the insights you gained in the activity?
 What do you think are those scrambled words?
Abstraction The teacher will discuss the following;

Application “Find Me!”


(10 minutes) The teacher will group the class into 5, each group must contain 3-5 members
(depends on the class size).
The teacher will provide a poem and the students will look and identify the literary
devices that was used in the poem. Then, the teacher will divide the poem in each
group.

Group 1 - Stanza 1
Group 2 - Stanza 2
Group 3 - Stanza 3
Group 4 - Stanza 4
Group 5 - Stanza 5

Assessment The teacher will let the students to create a poem using the literary devices.
(13 minutes)
Criteria:
Content: 10pts
Use of literary devices - 10 points
Organization - 10 points

The teacher will ask the following questions:


1. For you, what is the use of literary devices in writing?
2. How will literary devices help you in writing a poem creatively?
Then, the teacher will re-stress the topic to the students.
