Title: Environmental Protection

I. Introduction

Environment is everything that sorrounds as. It is a place where different living

(biotic) or non-living (abiotic) things.

Environment plays an important role in the healthy living of human beings.

Environment is everything that is around us. It is the reason why we still breathing
and living, so therefore we have to protect them. The Phillippine Government
provides us with different department and agencies for preservation of our natural
resources. Laws, Acts and Statues that we must follow and become an environmental
steward and to participate in creating a brighter future for our children. The
deterioration or the slowly destruction of environment will lead or threatens the
earth's natural resources such as clean water supply, fossil fuels for energy, and food
supply.

II. Abstract

This paper will show us an introduction of every department that handles the
environmental issues, there mandate, vission and mission for the sustainable
environment for the future generation. The agencies that implements law for the
protection of the surroundings that we are living.

The right to a clean environment and defendable development is necessary

and closely connected to the right to health and well being. It is of constitutional
importance to note that there is strong relationship between the quality of the
environment and the health of the people living and/or exposed to those
environment.

As a human being we have our own responsibility within ourselves and a

commitment to the environment to preserve them.

III. Review on related literature

Government Departments:

One of the agency is the Department of Energy and Natural Resources

(DENR). DENR is the primary agency responsible for the conservation,
management, development, and proper use of the country’s environment and natural

1
resources, specifically forest and grazing lands, mineral resources, including those
in reservation and watershed areas, and lands of the public domain, as well as the
licensing and regulation of all natural resources as may be provided for by law in
order to ensure equitable sharing of the benefits derived therefrom for the welfare of
the present and future generations of Filipinos. Its main responsibility is to govern
and supervise the exploration, development, utilization, and conservation of the
country's natural resources.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is the executive department of the

Philippine government responsible for the promotion of agricultural and fisheries
development and growth. DA primary concern is to improve farm income and
generate work opportunities for farmers, fishermen and other rural workers. But still
agriculture in the Phillippines is dying. Most of the agricultural lands is turning to
subdvisions, shopping malls and industrial areas. The agency must support the
farmers/fisherman in terms of training and moral boost because they lack basic skills
in farming/fishery. They must help this farmer/fisherman to have affordable and less
expensive agricultural/fishing supplies.

The Department of Energy (DOE) is mandated by RA 7638 (Department of

Energy Act of 1992) to prepare, integrate, coordinate, supervise and control all plans,
programs, projects and activities of the Government relative to energy exploration,
development, utilization, distribution and conservation. The DOE is responsible for
advancing the national, economic and energy security through the implementation
of policies regarding nuclear power, fossil fuels, and alternative energy sources. As
an individual we must know how to conserve energy.

Laws:

RA 8550 as Amended by RA 10654. The amended Fisheries Code of the

Philippines is meant to help the industry grow even further in a sustainable maner.
By deterring and eliminating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUUF)
practices, the government is securing livelihood for all fisheries stakeholders as well
as adequate food Supply and continuous economic growth for the entire nation and
future generations. The law is after the protection of the marine resource that
provides livelihood and food for millions of Filipinos. The law provides for penalties
enough to deter IUUF activities and prevent offenders from repeating the same
violation.

Republic Act No. 8749, otherwise known as the Philippine Clean Air Act, is
a comprehensive air quality management policy and program which aims to achieve
and maintain healthy air for all Filipinos. Under the Clean Air Act, the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to regulate emission of
pollutants that "endanger public health and welfare." State and local governments
also monitor and enforce Clean Air Act regulations, with oversight by the EPA.

2
The Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 (Republic Act No. 9275). It aims to
protect the country's water bodies from pollution from land-based sources
(industries and commercial establishments, agriculture and community/household
activities). The Clean Water Acts primary objective is to restore and maintain the
integrity of the nations waters. The objective translates into two fundamental
national goals: to eliminate the discharge of pollutants into the nations waters, and
to achieve water quality levels that are fishable and swimmable.

IV. Statement of the Problem

Environmental issues are harmful effects for the human activity and all the
living oraganism on the biophysical environment.

We our experiencing five environmental pollution.

(1) Air pollution – defined as the occurrence of any foreign matter or gas
into the atmosphere which may be harmful to living organisms. Sources:
Industrial Pollutants, Burning of fuel, Mobile Combustion, Agricultural
Activity, Radiation and Suspended Particulate Matter.
(2) Water Pollution – defined as any changes in the physical or Chemical
properties of water, due to presence of any foreign substance.
(3) Soil Pollution – means addition of unwanted substances which reduce the
soil fertility.
(4) Radioactive Pollution – it causes pollution to air, water and soil
(5) Noise Pollution – as the production of unwanted high pitch sound. Sound
is an inseperable part of human life, but higher pitch can do more harm
than good. It only causes physiological damage but also psychological
damage.

V. Conclusion

The environment is an important issue even when society is faced with

economic crises, wars, and unending social problems. It matters because Earth is the
only home that humans have, and it provides air, food, and other needs. We the
people has the obligation and responsibility to protect, conserve and use natural
resources judiciously. The future of our environment depends on us.

Agriculture is the foundation of our food security. As such, we must work

together continuously and the concern agencies must collaborate in research and
development to meet future challenges in agriculture.

VI. Recommendation
As an individual, we are also resposible for the protection of our environment.
It should start from our home by simple waste segregation and by using reusable
container.
Despite the slowly destruction of our environment, our government
continuously improving laws together with other sectors, sets environmental
protections, new standards , goals and establishes the framework for environment
are shared among states and locals authorites to ensure balanced ecology among the
living organism.
Environmental awareness is to understand the fragility of our environment
and the importance of its protection. Promoting environmental awareness is an
easy way to become an environmental steward and participate in creating a
brighter future for our children.

RESPECT FOR ENVIRONMENT and ONE ANOTHER!!!

THE FUTURE OF OUR ENVIRONMENT DEPENDS ON US!!!
