IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool (ITDT) v4.0 offers multiple functional
capabilities that simplify the task of maintaining IBM tape products.
Download Description
The IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool (ITDT) is available in two versions:
Standard Edition (ITDT-SE) - This is a command line version.
Invoke it by entering the executable from the directory where the
tool is located. The Help feature gives a brief explanation of
each function and shows the required syntax.
Graphical Edition (ITDT-GE) - This is a GUI version for the following:
Microsoft Windows operating systems (Microsoft Windows Server 2003
and 2008 (32-bit x86) and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008
(64-bit x64 ) [with a 32-bit JVM].
Linux operating systems (Linux Distributions with Kernel 2.6,
glibc 2.2.5 and later (X86))
Both versions provide the user with a single diagnostic program for
tapeutil applications.
The ITDT Tool offers multiple functional capabilities that simplify the
task of updating tape and library firmware. It is available for most
major platforms and requires no special device drivers.
Note: The term tapeutil is a synonym for the tool that was delivered with
the device driver. This new version of ITDT now supports and will replace
the tape utility program (tapeutil) previously provided by the device driver.

The ITDT tool can perform the following tasks:

- Update microcode to supported IBM LTO Tape Drives and Tape
Library products (non-IBM devices may not be selected, see the
IBM Tape Device Drivers Installation and User's Guide for
firmware update on 3576/TS3310 Tape Library), as well as IBM
3592/TS1120/TS1130 Tape Drives.
- Upload IBM LTO and 3592/TS1120/TS1130 Tape Drive and Tape
Library dump files. Used by support personnel to help troubleshoot
a problem.
- Perform IBM LTO and 3592/TS1120/TS1130 Tape Drive and Tape
Library diagnostics, including IBM Tape Drive read/write diagnostics.

Note: The legacy Tape Products (3580 GEN1 and GEN2, 3581, 3582, and
3583 Products) are not supported with this version of ITDT but
are still supported with the older version of ITDT v1.2. See
Archived version.

Installation Instructions
ITDT-SE Installation Instructions
The binaries are self-extracting archives that will contain one or more
program files and a readme file.
Please, ensure that you read the ReadMe file first along with the ITDT
documentation, as it contains all of the instructions needed to run the
program. ITDT documentation can be found in Chapter 10 of the IBM Tape
Device Drivers Installation and User's Guide.
No additional install of the Test Tool is required, once the program
file has been extracted from the archive it can be executed immediately.
The installation of the IBM tape Device Driver is not required in order
to use ITDT. Contact IBM Technical Support if help is needed.
Known Issues and Limitations
============================
Linux -----
It is strongly recommended to not operate Security Enhanced Linux
SELinux) in enforcing mode while running ITDT-GE. When performing
a [F] Firmware Update on a 3592E06 tape drive within a TS3400/3577
library attached via a Qlogic QLA2340 HBA on SuSE SLES10 x86, the
drive may disappear after the firmware update was successfully
performed. To recover from this situation, re-load the Qlogic driver
module. On RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 and SuSE Enterprise
Linux 10 invoking the online help may cause an error message
"Problems opening link / Unable to open web browser on {0}" to appear.
Workarounds are to issue the commands
a) ln -s /usr/bin/firefox /usr/local/bin/mozilla or
b) export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/firefox<version>
Replace with the appropriate path to your installed firefox version)
before starting ITDT-GE
