Vacuum system upgrade project (proposal)

Present challenges in our vacuum toilet system are as follows:

1. Having regular problems in vacuum line like low vac, clogging

2. Worst hit areas are the mid & aft (crew / pax ) & upper dk (12/13) public toilets
3. Deck 8 aft pax 26 cabins are retrofit (by P&O ) & have perpetual problems
4. Presently collection tank #1,2,3 & 4 are connected with 268,286,366 & 389 toilets respectively.
As we see the aft sections are already overloaded. To assist tank#3 & 4 vacuum one external
pump is already there (Evac online max R175) & tank#3 & 4 could be cross connected also to
help each other.
5. Some pipe works needs to be replaced (Loro 40mm / 50mm, y connections, rubber & Straub
connections etc) as we have more than 5 mm deposits &/ or suspected leakage as well
6. Especially valve #16 in tank #3 (serving mostly crew cabins)
7. No dosing regime or fixed installation is there, neither any vacuum gauge in upper deck areas
to monitor vacuum level

Following are the proposed remedies to mitigate the above-mentioned

challenges
1. Change pipework in valve#16 area
2. Install an additional Evac onlinemax R300 unit to assist collection tank #3 &4
3. Install evac dosing pump for intermittent acid dosing based on pipe condition (continuous
dosing would affect STP performance) & start a Gamazyne dosing regime with the help of HK
dept.
4. In future may consider to put one more evac online max unit for forward collection tank &
cross connection option for these tanks.
5. Install vacuum gauge in 2-3 position each deck for monitoring

Work break down structure (WBS)

1. For installing Evac onlinemax need to isolate the relevant collection tank (in the final phase
after finishing all pipe work installation. So crew area would remain with out vacuum for that
time period.
2. May consider to take the old evac online max for forward tank as well
3. Upper deck public toilet pipe work needs to be inspected and replaced if necessary
4. Install dosing pump 2 or 3 each deck in strategic location. This job could be done when ship is
operational as well
5. Need to replace 1 or 2 vacuum interface valve unit in urinals

Resources required:
Material: Evac online max R300 and installation by evac team
Loro pipe: DN 70/50/40
Rubber couplings, Y connector, straub coupling, Evac dosing pumps with container, Vacuum
gauges
Electrical components (cable, breaker etc) as suggested by chief electrician

Man power required:

2 plumber + 2 assistant / trainee plumber

And some motivational bonus could really expedite the project.
