LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

It is my pleasure to recommend Satish B Subramanyam for the graduate program in Electrical and Computer
Engineering at your university.

I am Sr. Staff Manager at Qualcomm Inc in Bangalore. My team handles the physical design of market leading
wireless SoCs in the industry today. I also teach at Next Generation Institute of Technology (NGIT), one of the
leading VLSI Institutes in Bangalore, where I guide undergraduate and graduate students for their final year
engineering projects.

I first met Satish at a workshop “Advanced Trends in Low Power VLSI SoC Design” conducted at NGIT. Satish
was always very enthusiastic and keenly interested in the design concepts of VLSI. He came up with many
interesting questions and approached me to do his final year Engineering project under my guidance.

I externally guided him on his final year project in which Satish worked on the “Physical Design of parallel AES
algorithm block” and took the design altogether from netlist to GDS II on 40nm technology node. I was
impressed by his understanding of design methodologies & applying them to build the power network & clock
trees and resolving the optimization issues in routing. He successfully verified the design and met the timing
and congestion specs.

After he completed his Undergrad studies, he approached me with new ideas to be implemented in VLSI circuit
design. I appointed him as a Teaching Assistant under me at NGIT, where he is currently assisting me in guiding
graduate students on their Master’s thesis.

As a teaching assistant, he worked with graduate students in designing a Low power Match Line Sensing
scheme for TCAMs at 40nm technology. He achieved significant speed improvement and energy reduction.
Presently, he is working on designing a reconfigurable SRAM Architecture for low power multimedia
applications.

Satish is very confident and clear in presenting his ideas. He is very hardworking and dedicated and often
spends long hours at the institute understanding the concepts. He is a quick and avid learner. Satish is
confident and is not afraid to take up challenges.

I myself, have an MSEE degree from Purdue University (1997). The two year graduate program benefited me
enormously and laid the foundation for my now 15+ year’s career. I have encouraged Satish right from his
undergrad studies, to take up an Advanced degree because I know it will help him enormously. I believe he has
great potential for advanced research and will be very successful in the semiconductor industry. I strongly
recommend him for the graduate program at your university with full financial aid.
