Shri Shanaishcara-krita Shri Narasimha Stuti
Everyone is afraid of the malefic planet Shani because generally he is associated with
extreme sorrow and suffering. However, Shanideva himself has devised a way of
solving this problem by obtaining the blessings of Lord Nrisimha.
Shani made an agreement with the Lord that he would never trouble those who recite
his Nrisimha Stuti when they are facing troubles related to dvadasha-ashtama-
pancama (a situation where Shani-kata lasts for 7 1/2 births, I think..)
If one recites with devotion Shani’s Shri Nrisimha Stuti, especially on Shanivara
(Saturdays) and when Shani graha comes to 12-8-5 janma rashi, one will please the
Lord who is the Supersoul of Shanaishchara and the Lord will remove all obstacles and
suffering and bless His devotee.
Lord Nrisimhadeva is easily accessible to the devotees and punishes those who are
evil-minded.
He is the savior for those who are helpless who desire to seek refuge in Him. When
the demigods
of innumerable planets bow down to His lotus feet, the bright jewels from their crowns
are reflected on His toenails which gives the impression that lamps are being waved
in front of them.
Unto these lotus feet, Shanideva prostrated and prayed (in the court of Brahma).
shri shanir-uvaca -
By the mercy of the dust of Your lotus feet which destroy a multitude of sins, grant
infinite auspiciousness to Your devotee who always worships Your lotus feet with
devotion. O Lord Nrisimha, please bestow upon me Your merciful side-long glance.
padaravinda-yugalam parama-dharena |
Your lotus feet are worshipped by Goddess Lakshmi, even though She is fickle by
nature (cancala) and by Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva whose feet are worthy of worship
with devotion. O Lord Nrisimha, please bestow upon me Your merciful side-long
glance.
yad rupam agama-shirah pratipadhyamadhya |
By the word of His devotee named Prahlada, Lord Hari, who is generous and kind,
appeared from a pillar and by placing Hiranyakashipu on His thighs split open the his
stomach with His nails. O Lord Nrisimha, please bestow upon me Your merciful side-
long glance.
You protected your own devotee Prahlada from a raging fire, the deep ocean, from
falling from a tall mountain peak, poison, a mad elephant and the fangs of poisonous
serpents. You are omnipresent and supremely generous. O Lord Nrisimha, please
bestow upon me Your merciful side-long glance.
yannirvikara para-rupa vicintanena |
By meditating upon He whose great form is devoid of imperfections, the best of the
saints attained liberation from the ocean of materialistic attachments and obtained
unmitigated salvation. O Lord Nrisimha, please bestow upon me Your merciful side-
long glance.
By meditating upon He whose form is fearsome, all peace, happiness and prosperity
can be obtained, all sins can be obliterated, the fear arising from evil spirits, fevers
and unfavorable planetary positions can be removed, O Lord Nrisimha, please bestow
upon me Your merciful side-long glance.
Your transcendental fame is sung gloriously in all the divine assemblies of Shiva,
Brahma and Indra etc. and whose power is steadfast in wiping out all impurities, O
Lord Nrisimha, please bestow upon me Your merciful side-long glance.
evam shrutva stutim devah shaninam kalpitam harih |
O Shani, I am pleased with your devotion. What ever you desire that will benefit the
world, ask for that kind of boon and I will grant it.
O Lord Nrisimha, O reservoir of compassion, please be kind to me. O Lord of all gods,
let my week-day (Saturday) be Your favorite day. O Purifier of all the worlds, may You
fulfill the desires of all those who listen to or read this great prayer to You composed
by me."
shri nrisimha uvaca -
Then Shanideva replied to Lord Narahari that he would follow the Lord's instructions.
Then the joyful saints and sages present there (in Brahma's assembly) responded with
cries of, ‘jaya, jaya!’".
Thus ends the prayers offered to the universal protector Shri Nrisimha by the great
soul Shani.

Mantra in Sanskrit:
ॐ आ: ह्रौं क्रौं हौं तीक्ष्णदौं ष्ट्राय उग्राय भीमाय स्तम्भ पुरुषाय श्री नरस ौंह आ: ह्रौं क्रौं हौं .
By tradition, this mantra is recited for obtaining the grace of lord Narsimha and for victory over
"enemies". This is a Kaula mantra, therefore please obtain proper initiation before commencing the
mantra practice.
this is a beeja mantra, which means, it is the seed of power of a deity, not to be taken lightly at
all.....all deities have a beeja mantra which is the root of their form and potency. Beeja mantras
more potent than normal chants and are known to have extreme effects of either realization or
karma cleansing. It is chanted so perfectly here that listening to it intently with devotion will also
have an impact by itself. thanks to Adi for sharing. It is advisable still, to not chant this unless it is
accorded to a student directly his/her guru.

hrIM - is called the sRShTi or mAyA - bIjAkShara - the seed-letter representing the act of and essence
of Creation. The Devi Bhagavatam explain the Three important shakti bIjAkSharas very well. The
Saptashati says the mAyA bIjA is to visualized as a shiny-Sun-like object.
yogini-yogini - The Lalita Sahasranama - an index of all the Devi tantras mentions that parAmbA-
LalitA is served by a group of 64 yoginis. They form a circle around Lalita-parA-bhaTTArikA. They ind
representation in the Sri Chakra.
yogeshwari - SHE has Lordship over yogis and all forms of Yogas.
yogabhayankari - Kundalini-yoga is to awaken the Creative Power expressed as a 3.5 coiled Serpent
at the mUlAdhAra chakra- the seat of worldly desires. The awakening of Kundalini must be done
under the guidance of an expert realized Guru belongin to the Tantric tradition for any
mismanagement of the same might result in the person going mad or otherwise destructive to
normal function. This element of Fear is part of some of the intense Devi-tantras. Hence SHE is
yogabhayankarI.
sakala-sthAvara-jangamasya-mukha-hRdayaM- SHE is the face and the heart i.e. the beginning and
the secret end. In Sanskrit the word hRdayam in ordinary speech means the physical heart but the
word is also used to mean quintessence.
AkarShaya-AkarShaya - Attract. The repetition of the same word in most Indian languages is done for
emphasis.
svAhA - This is a word used in The Vedas for offering oblations to the Sacred Fire. But in the Tantras-
The Sacred Fire is conceived within the body itself. Hence by doing a japa of any mantra ending in
svAhA-kAra, one is also simultaneously doing a yajna in the mind. The superiority of japa-yajna over
the physical one is acknowledged by The Bhagavad Gita too, which is mainly a Vedanta Compendium
This is a Devi-vashikarana mantra dedicated to one Chief of yoginis i.e. Yogeshwari. In
ParabhaTTArikA-Lalita-Upasana it would be as a Mother with surrendering mainly for jnAna and
hence moksha, but as Shakti tantras would declare the Devi-paths are for conferring bhoga &
mokSha, for the Tantras view The Universe in Positive terms, not something to delude one from
moksha, as in Vedanta where denial is the method. One is urged to give up, material pursuits or
even when pursued, one is encouraged to do so with perfect detachment. The Tantras offer an
alternate path to God realization which is positive throughout. There is cloying by indulgence. That is
why it is said Narayana takes away everything from you so that He alone is your greatest Wealth.
Parashakti on the other hand gives in excess, thus deludes you to fall into a path of self-destruction.
The Devi paths are fast but fraught with dangerous consequences. The delusions in the way of many.
Very few, would not get caught in Her play. Caveat!
