TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Warm nationalist greetings!

Hiraya, now on its fourth year, is an annual festival of the arts- a celebration of freedom, an
expression of truth and a statement of creative energy in the midst of deafening silence and
passivity. Gathering artists from around the province, the festival aims to compel all those who
partake in it to invest their energy in a renewed sense-of-self rooted in the community.
Imperative to the local arts scene in Northern Samar, Hiraya is a key element to the revival of
collaboration, cooperation and unity among various local art groups, musicians, visual artists and
literary networks that emboldens Nortehanon culture to face the challenges of a modern world
unkind to the arts.

This year, the International Association for Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT),
partnered with the HIRAYA Arts festival with this year’s roll of events asserting the role of media
tantamount to the role of arts in molding the youth and the society through journalism skills
training, educations, and first-hand field research.
It is in this light that we invite five (5) members of your school/community publication to participate in
the one-day journalism skills training dubbed as “Larab: Empowering People’s Media” to be
conducted by the IAWRT on February 15, Saturday, 9:00 AM at the UEP Kapihan, University of
Eastern Philippines, University Town, Catarman. Attached herewith is the program of the activity and
the letter of invitation from the IAWRT.

Dear Ma’am/Sir,

Greetings!

International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) is a broad network of

professional communicators or researches in media and communications with membership from
14 national chapters and members in 54 countries. The organization is committed to the
enhancement of women’s role and participation in media as gender equality cannot be achieved
without gender parity in media and communication. For several years, IAWRT has worked with
several media organizations and outlets in the Philippines such as the Alternative Media Network
and National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).

In Eastern Visayas, IAWRT has successfully launched podcasts and trainings with Radyo Tacloban,
an IAWRT-sponsored community radio, and its partners, DYVL Aksyon radyo weekly program
Lingganay han Kamatuoran and online news website Eastern Vista.

This year, IAWRT and its partners in the Eastern Visayas region seek to broaden its membership as
well as to further uphold its mission and vision to empower both young and professional journalists
through skills training, educations, and first-hand field research.

It is in this light that we invite you to a one-day journalism skills training dubbed as “Larab:
