2 Racking Options

Ericsson SPO 1400 supports rack mounting sets for several rack types: ETSI
style 2.2m rack, 1/BYB 501 220 and 5/BYB 501 220 racks. The Ericsson
preferred solution is to use BYB 501 220 rack types.

2.1 BYB Rack

The BYB 501 equipment practice is used for current indoor design applications.
It is an open-standard mechanical system, compliant with: IEC 60 917, ETS
300 119-1, ETS 300 119-2, ETS 300 119-3 and ETS 300 119-4.

The BYB 501 rack is intended to house subrack, cable shelf subrack, fan unit
subrack or other subrack complying with the IEC 917-2-2 standard.

The rack may also house subracks that comply with the 19-inch standard (IEC
60297), provided that frames with the suitable intersection of holes are used.

In addition, the basic cabinet may be configured for 500 mm wide subracks,
thereby fulfilling the ETS 300 119-3 standard (miscellaneous type).

Figure 1 shows the 1/BYB 501 220 rack variant (as example).

Table 2 reports rack dimensions and main characteristics.

2.13 Patch Panels

The 63xE1 or 63xT1 Expansion Module (EM) does not have individual
E1/T1 connectors on the module itself. Instead, two high-density Molex-LFH
connectors connect to external Patch Panels (32xE1 or 32xT1 lines per one
connector). E1/T1 Patch Panels can be used with the SPO 1410 or SPO 1460
shelf.

Mounting brackets are available for the rack styles referenced in Table 27,
Table 28, Table 29 and Table 30.

Racking Options

The patch panels are normally mounted horizontally; however, vertical mounting
can be accommodated in all the rack types listed using the Patch Panel Mtg.
Kit ETSI / 19" / BYB501 (same ETSI Patch Panel kit used for horizontal
mounting, code: NTM 101 1855/3). This enables the Patch Panel to be fit
into any of the vertical Mounting Kits identified in Section 2.4.2 on page 9.

2.13.1 Pre-Terminated Cable Solutions

Pre-terminated cable solutions for the high density E1 modules that utilize the
Molex LFH connector solution and a patch panel option are available.

There is also a LFH to open-ended cable option for Customers providing their
own termination solution.

The cables used for the ‘‘Connection to a Patch Panel’’ have a 60 degree
connector terminated at one end (either turned on the right or on the left), for
connection to the shelf, and one straight connector terminated at the other
end, for connection to the patch panel (Figure 15). These cables are for E1
applications only and where the Patch Panels are required.

The cables used for the ‘‘Direct Connection to a Digital Distribution Frame
(DDF)’’ have a 60 degree connector terminated at one end (either turned on the
right or on the left), for connection to the shelf, and at the other end the cables
are left open ended for remote termination (Figure 14). These cables are for E1
applications only and where no Patch Panels are required.

5.5 Protection Equipping Rules

In the next sub-chapters all the composition rules related to protection aspects
are described. If a certain protection scheme/architecture is not mentioned, it
means that no specific configuration rules are present.

5.5.1 Power Supply Protection

Each System Controller Module includes a power interface to a single power
source. The input power is fed into the backplane to power the rest of the
modules in the chassis, each of which includes it’s own power conversion
functions. Protection against module power circuit failure is provided by
the System Controller and Service Module equipment redundancy features
described in Section 5.5.2 on page 65 and Section 5.5.3 on page 66.

Where only one System Controller Module is equipped, a redundant power

Product Configuration Rules

5.5.2 System Controller Protection

Two System Controller Modules can be used to provide redundancy for the
system controller, the TDM matrix and the Ethernet crossbar. The traffic
interfaces located on the System Controller Modules are not protected by
equipment protection.

The system runs in redundant mode whenever there are two System Controller
Modules present that satisfy the criteria for redundant operation. In redundant
operation, the two-processor systems operate as ACTIVE and WARM
STANDBY. The module in warm standby runs in a standby, partly initialized
state where it maintains its configuration database synchronized with the active
module. Dynamic data for selected applications are also synchronized.

The traffic interfaces on the system controller modules are available for traffic on
both the active and the standby system controller module. The traffic interface
types available on the system controller modules do not necessarily have to be
the same in both slots, but the controller software must be compatible.

5.5.3 Service Module Protection

The SPO 1410 offers 1:1 protection for the following types of modules:

• 63 x E1 Service Module

• 6 x E3/T3 Service Module

• 8 x STM Service Module in 4xSTM-1 mode

• SM-C/2xSTM-63xP-A Service Module

Note: Currently, CeS Card Protection on SM-CESAP/4xSTM1/OC3-A

Service Module is not supported.

Table 55 shows SM protection for the valid SM modes and slots.

(1) For slot number, refer to Figure 16

Only non-revertive switching is supported.

Note: When the 8xSTM module is equipment protected, in 4xSTM-1 mode,

both electrical and optical interface modules can be used.

5.5.4 MSP
SPO 1410 offers 1+1 linear Multiplex Section Protection (MSP) on all STM-N
interfaces.

The following rules apply for the 1+1 MSP:

• Protection can only be enabled between two ports of the same STM-N type.

• Protection can be enabled between two ports on the same module.

• Protection can be enabled between two ports located on different modules.

• Protection can not be enabled between a port on a Service Module and a

port on a System Controller Module.

The Group Mux Tray 48 channels (GMT-48) is a 48 channels Multiplexer and

Demultiplexer solution for the Ericsson products. All the components are
housed into a chassis 1.5 Rack Unit (RU) high that can be directly mounted in a
19“ Rack or in ETSI Racks (front and rear mounting uprights).

Note: Mounting brackets for rear uprights are mounted on the tray. A
separate set of brackets for front uprights together with the installation
kit (M6 screws, washers and caged nuts) are provided.

Duplex LC adapters (IN and OUT for the same channel are coupled in the
same duplex adapter) are present on the front panel of the tray for connection
of the Multiplexer and the Demultiplexer to the rest of the system. This tray
contains no control electronics. A proper fiber management solution, with fiber
holders able to accommodate 98 fibers (2 mm jacket), is available on the
front of the tray.

The 14-slots LGX® chassis is always used if the width of the required items
is more than 1 slot (see Table 87.)

192 02-CSA 113 007/100 Uen E | 2017-09-29 107

Product Configuration Rules

The use of the 14-slots LGX® chassis can be preferred also if the required
items have a width of 1 slot but they are at least 7 (in this case 3 3-slots LGX®
chassis are needed) or 10 (in this case 4 3-slots LGX® chassis are needed).

In the other cases it is preferable the adoption of the 3-slots LGX® chassis.

The 14-slots LGX® chassis has not constrains in the slot type so it is possible
to use whichever slots for the different type of passive items (see Table 87) if
they fit.

The allocation sequence for 14-slots LGX® chassis depending on the width of
the passive items to use could be: first insert 2 slots width items and then 1
slot width items.

Note: For slot width, refer to Table 84.

Power Consumption

13 Power Consumption

Each SPO chassis terminates two redundant power feeds from the PDU (either
an A feed or B feed from a single breaker module). Each power entry is EMI
filtered to prevent shelf generated noise from being radiated.

Total power consumption depends on the type and quantity of modules.

The total power consumption dictates the minimum gauge of power cable and
the power plant that can be safely used for the switch.

Caution!
In order to avoid possible equipment damage, when installing additional
power-consuming hardware parts in the system, recalculate the power
consumption (and current required) and install the appropriate cabling and
fuses or breakers, if necessary.

To determine the minimum gauge of cable that can be used, calculate the input
current that the system configuration requires by proceeding as described
in the following:

1. Determine the power consumption in Watts for each switch by totalling the
maximum power consumption of the individual parts. Use theTable 89 for
the hardware parts. The information in the table allow calculating the total
typical and maximum power consumption.

Do!
Always use the maximum value in the calculation.

2. Divide each shelf’s total maximum consumption in Watts by the worst case
voltage (for example: 40.5 V for “48 Vdc” power systems), or by the low
cutoff voltage at the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) input if the power system
uses a low voltage disconnect device.

This calculation provides the current in amps (single feed maximum) that
each shelf requires.

192 02-CSA 113 007/100 Uen E | 2017-09-29 109

Product Configuration Rules

3. Choose a gauge of power cable that is rated for the current in amps that
each shelf requires, and rated according to the distance between the power
source and the PDU to ensure the voltage drop is less than 1.75 V.

Attention!
To prevent nuisance tripping of the breakers, they need to be rated at least 25
to 30% above the calculated amperage for the system, to a maximum of the
125 A breaker rating.

Table 89 reports the typical and maximum power consumption of the modules
that can be equipped into SPO 1400.

Note: All the value reported in Table 89 do not included pluggable module
power consumption, unless specifically indicated. For Pluggable
Modules Power Consumption refer to Table 90.

Pre-Configured Kits

14 Pre-Configured Kits

In order to facilitate the configuration of a SPO 1400 node, most items

are collected in pre-assembled kits. Such a kits contains items required
for providing a certain feature, mandatory items, pre-configured solutions.
Basically, three areas can be identified: subracks, SMs, upgrade kits.

14.1 Subracks
In Table 91, the available pre-assembled subracks are listed.

14.2 Service Modules

Most SM requires an EM that provides the physical interfaces. SMs and
required EMs are collected into single pre-assembled Service&Expansion
Module (SEM).

As SPO 1410 and SPO 1460 cannot share the same EMs, there are specific
SEM for each of them.

14.2.1 SPO 1410

Table 107 lists all the available SEM for SPO 1410.
