Progress of varieties
Developments :

(1) Malav Ratna - HD 4672

(2) Malav Shri - HI 8381
(3) Malav Shakti - HI 8498
(4) Sudha - MPO 1106
Constraints
1- Degradation of the soil and
decline in groundwater storage
and water table.
2- Forced heading and maturity
due to short winter span
resulting low productivity of
wheat.
3- Weed infestation specially in
deep black soil.
4- Poor soil and water
management in canal
area.
5- Support price and assured
market exclusively for
durum is not available.
Future Thrust
 Encouraging organic farming.
 Increase in irrigated area through
sprinkler system.
 propagation of technology amongs
cultivators.
 Proper soil & water management
specially in canal area.
 Development & increase of area
under improved verities.
 Promoting processing unit
infrastructure.
Priority
This Discussion does not
mean that the importance of
aestivum wheat had been
eliminated. Durum and aestivum
both are of equal importance in
the state. However there is a
possibility of export of durum
from M.P. (in country & out of
country) hence priority will be for
durum.
 In Madhya Pradesh
organic forming is being
adopted on large scale,
hence organic wheat both
aestivun & durum will be
produced.
Conclusion
Availability of new durum
varieties Malav Ratna, Malavshree,
Malav Shakti, Sudha, and among
aestivums HI 1418, HI 1479, HI
1500, JWS 17 and NP 4010 are the
new hopes in increasing production
and productivity. Thus state has got
tremendous opportunity to produce
export quality wheat for entering in
global trade in future.
