CHAPTER III

Methodology

The present research paper is an attempt to assess and highlight the effects of

flipped classroom model on STEM students’ academic behaviour. This chapter will

discuss the methods that have been done in this study that used in the collection and

analysis of data to answer the research questions. It will highlight there the Research

Design, Sampling Technique, Data Gathering Procedure, Respondents, and Local of the

Study.

Research Design

This study used a descriptive research design. Descriptive research design is a

scientific method which involves observing and describing the behavior of a subject

without influencing it in any way. It aims to accurately and systematically describe a

population, situation or phenomenon.

Sampling Technique

Purposive and Stratified random sampling technique was used in this study;

purposive sampling technique for the teachers and and stratified sampling technique for

the students. Purposive sampling technique is non-probability sampling method and a

type of study which researcher relies on his or her own judgment when choosing

members of population to participate in the study. Stratified random sampling technique

is a method of sampling of sampling that involves the division of the population into

1
smaller subgroups known as strata. The strata are formed based on the members’ shared

attributes or characteristics such as income or educational attainment.

Researchers used purposive sampling technique for the teachers to determine who

used the flipped classroom model in their participants especially in the teachers and also

the researchers used stratified random sampling technique for the students to divide their

participants into 3 sections( Einstein, Edison, and Franklin ) and used simple random

sampling to get 3 participants in every section.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering procedure covers the interview of the said participant who

belong on a STEM students . The main focus of this research is to know the effects of

flipped classroom model to the academic behaviour of the students. There are three (3)

questions to be gathered to help the researcher fulfill their aim for this research.

Respondents

The subject of the study composed of twelve (12) participants (3 teachers and 9

students) of Polomolok National High School who belongs in STEM.

Locale of the Study

The researcher conducted this study at Polomolok National High School located

at Barangay Cannery Site, Polomolok, South Cotabato. The said school will be the mean

on getting the participants who belongs in the STEM, the said society is over 3000

students and teachers.
