DESIGN BUILDING ENGINEERING ICT CLINICAL

Design Criteria

6. HMC corporate network

10-Dec-2018 | V1.2
ICT Clinical Design Criteria

HMC corporate networks include:

The HMC ICT network in any new, refurbished or upgraded facility will be a part of the HMC corporate Wide Area Network (WAN) that
connects all HMC facilities across Qatar.

End use equipment

HMC will accommodate end-use equipment that has been approved for connection to HMC’s networks.
Do not connect any end-use equipment to HMC’s network, either wired and wireless, without prior approval from HMC HICT.

Active network components

An operational ICT network will be required in order to complete the building systems testing and commissioning, as many ELV and
building systems will be connected to the ICT network.
HICT should work alongside the contractor to ensure the network is installed and con gured according to HICT’s design.
All ICT and telecommunications rooms, the structured cable system and all active network components will need to be fully
maintained by the contractor until HMC have accepted the facility.
Upon successful completion and commissioning of the ICT network installation, maintenance of the active network shall be
transferred to HMC, with all necessary operational documentation.

Data rates
The HMC network will be designed for minimum 1Gb/s data rates to end-user devices, with an option for 10GB for bandwidth hungry
applications.
Backbone connectivity for higher data rate applications will be a minimum of 10Gb/s and up to 100Gb/s as required. Select ber
optic cable media that will allow seamless data speed upgrade without needing to replace ber optic cabling.

Network design
Provide network switch technology in coordination with HMC HICT technology department standards and directives.
Provide a detailed network design based on the location and estimated quantity of active network ports required through technical
and clinical consultations.
The design team shall provide all network design documentation to HMC HICT for review and sign-off prior to tender or procurement
of active network equipment.
Provide a multilayer design consisting of: access, distribution, and core networking layers.
A hierarchical model shall be designed using scalable network blocks that allow the network to meet evolving networking needs.
A modular design shall make the network easy to scale, and troubleshoot by promoting deterministic traf c patterns.
The 3-layer design is appropriate for HMC as it is a large corporate network consisting of multiple campuses across Qatar. To
accommodate this layout, the ICT network design shall consist of distributed networks connected to multiple network cores.

Redundancy and security

All active network equipment is Cisco and speci c model information will be provided by HICT.
Core switches shall be linked together with redundant and diverse 40GB or better ber optic uplinks; this shall not only provide
bandwidth link redundancy but shall also accommodate load balancing at the core layer of the network.
Each core switch shall be provided with dual connectivity media and appropriate, resilient power supplies.
The design shall allow each building to have stand-alone functionality if the link between the new facility and a single campus
distributor (CD) is unavailable.
Distribution layer switches shall be used to provide connectivity and load balancing between access layer switches and network core
switches.
Redundant distribution switches shall be located in physically diverse locations to eliminate any single point of failure.
Each distribution switch shall have dual, diversely routed connectivity routes and appropriate resilient power supplies.
The access layer shall be used to connect all of HMC ethernet-based eld devices.
The current HMC HICT standard for access layer switches are: for less than 144 CAT 6A cables stackable switches shall be used, for
over 144, chassis switches shall be used.
Network access switches shall be located in each IDF and shall connect back to 2 distribution switches that will be located in
physically diverse MDF rooms.
The ICT network shall be designed with suf cient redundancy to eliminate all single points of failure (SPOF) across the whole ICT
network.
Each facility network will be designed as a dual-star network with two separate core switches. The core switches may be located in a
data center, server room or MDF.
HMC will provide and manage all rewalls, security and systems for connections to the HMC’s corporate network.
Each network switch will require the appropriate network and power redundancy whether it is a core, distribution or access layer
switch. A minimum of dual power supplies and dual network connections is required but will be increased for distribution and core
switches.
Best practice network redundancy and security shall be incorporated in all network designs.
In addition to any warranty period, provide a 3 year on-site support and maintenance contract starting from the acceptance date of
the ICT network.  This should include 24/7 on site support within 2-4 hours of an incident being reported.

Documents to be provided to HICT

A table showing the installed quantity of data points installed per room/location.
A table showing the installed quantity of data points connected to each IDF. This will be used to nalize the BOQ for
active equipment.
At each design stage, AutoCAD and PDF single line diagrams of the network topology and interconnectivity should be provided and
agreed with HICT.
At each design stage, a set of drawings should be provided in AutoCAD and PDF formats showing all ICT related rooms
with each room type color coded and named or numbered.
Room layouts should also be provided and agreed with HICT for ICT and ELV rooms.
Fully loaded (equipment and furniture) oor plans should be provided to aid HICT in the wireless network design
process.
