THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUD

Introduction

Time management is the process of organizing and planning on how to divide

your time between specific activities. Essentially, the purpose of time management is

enabling people to get more and better work than in less time, with this time management

it will help us to be more productive in a right way. People are doing time managing

depending on the type of the tasks that person has. All know that as more tasks the person

has, as more time management they should have. Especially the students, time

management is essential to the students. A good time management is vital for student to

improve academic performance and achievements.

Each and every student should have time management ability which includes

setting goals & priorities, using time management mechanism and being organized in

using time. Time management is only possible through self-motivation; performance,

ability and motivation (Brigitte, Claessens, Eerde, & Rutte, 2005). Time management

skills can be defined as planning in advance, prioritizing work, test preparation, and

following schedules performed by students (Kirscenbaum & Perri,1982).

Academic Performance is the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has

achieved their short or long-term educational goals. According to (Collins Dictionary)

Academic performances have different classes like school works, performance task,

homeworks and projects. This academic performance is very essential to the students

because this is the need one to get a high marks and passed the level of the students.

Academic performance depends on academic interaction and academic interaction

depends on study habits and home environment. It means academic performance can be

estimated for any student by its home environment and learning skills and also by its

academic interaction, study habits, and home environment. By examining the three

possible paths of estimating academic performance, the strongest path is the home

environment which affects the learning skills and ultimately learning skills lead to affect

the academic performance. (8th International Conference on Recent Advances in

Statistics, At Lahore, Pakistan)

The senior high school has numerous duties to do because this is the one of the

years in secondary that every students should be focus and take seriously to. Being

student of senior high has many responsibilities to accomplish inside of the school and

they don't have enough time to fulfill their duties. Students must do their assignments,

projects and performance task. Thuswise often, student tend to have trouble managing

their time because most of them try to manage their time in a wrong way and if people

tried to manage it in a wrong way except that the outcome wouldn't be good as people

thought of it time management is broad, individuals should envision it deeper and deeper.

Many people have a problem in terms of managing time especially to the students ,

because of not planning and prioritizing the task that going to do and another possible

reason is we're living in 20th century that many of new technologies has invented that
cause due to distraction of the individuals. Students' time management can also affect

stress level of students as they need to cope with their tasks and their personal

achievements.

The academic performance is also has a problem, by focusing doing academic

performance it may cause of having stress next to depression and next to mental health

illness because of too much focusing in academic performance. Doing academic

performance to get high marks is good that all the worth of doing academic performance

has a success results. But didn't know by focusing academic performance it may affect of

person's health.

Higher academic performance can be achieved by balancing time management

and study techniques effectively (Powell 2004).

Background of the Study

A lot of students spend a huge amount of time thinking about the topic they will
discuss or write about, and sometimes about the way they are going to present it, and
this will certainly lead them to procrastinate. Eventually, the student’s Grade Point
Average (GPA) will start to decrease the more he puts off the work. However, when he
keeps delaying his work, stress will rise up and more pressure will be on the student,
which will lead him to late submission and his grades will decrease.

Time management is a set of practices that work together to help the person get
more value of time with the aim of improving the quality of your life.(International
Research in Education ISSN 2327-549.2015 Vol.3 No.2) Students most spent their time
to expectations of attaining their goals.By using the variables such as planning, and
prioritization to determine how they made or use of their time,it can help the students
to prevent poor time management.Various literatures like Macan et al (1190),Britton
and tesser (1191) and frisbee (1984) claim that there is a positive relationship between
time spent and performance that the more you engage in the management the better
results you will achieve in terms of increased academic performance.
There is positive relationship between time management factors such as
prioritization, procrastination, socialization and the students academic performance.
Further implications of the results suggest that students should prioritize their tasks,
less procrastination in responding to deadlines and in taking examinations and
moderate socialization activities. Karim, et. al, (2015) also links time management
factors to include students attitudes and behavior on time and management.

When some of the students spend their time to other activities that is not related to
their academic performance so the impact to the students is a poor time management
and lack of time to accomplish their task.Poor time management behaviours such as
improper allocation of time or last-minute preparation for have been frequently
discussed one of the primary source of poor academic performance. The effects of time
management on the students academic performance are lack of time may cause huge
problem like stress, rushing, poor performance and lack of energy due to depression. To
prevent this according to Gloe (1999) argued that the techniques of time management
are the best ways to manage course materials successfully. These includes group
discussion, exchanging ideas and sharing news on key points which Ultimately help the
students. In our society some people get rushed from being busy by doing a multi-
tasking so they are not taking breaks that cause tardiness to accomplish their task.If the
students know how to fix and balance their time.

The researchers choose this study because many of the student get a lot of
distraction like social media and video games that may cause to lack of time to do the
academic performance. And some of people know what is time management but they
don't know how to use it in a proper way.

The lack of time is the problem of every person not only locally but internationally
also. When we look overseas citizens of every country ,they also struggling on how to
manage their own time,on how to be productive or even how to do all the tasks, they
have not only pertaining to adults but also to the young ones and every individual. In our
country issue, many of the Students can't do their school work in time because of lack of
time.

Common problems noticed by the researchers especially in the institution where they
are presently teaching is that, there is absence of prioritization of the students on their
school tasks resulting to procrastinations by some of the students especially on delaying
examinations due to the lack of time to study.

The students must learn how to manage their time effectively. Fortunately, there are
many techniques that can help them do that, students should arrange their schedule
according to their priorities, which means that they should look at the important dates,
such as paper due dates and arrange them according to the size of the assignment and
the date it is due, and then write them down on a calendar as a reminder note. This will
make students see their whole semester a lot easier and simpler.

The aims of the researcher is to know and investigate the impact of time
management and academic performance to the students, how to have a better time
management skill,to know how important to have a skill in managing time to do all the
school works on time and to do all the school works on time and to know all the school
works on time management and academic performance.

the purpose of this study it will help the individuals especially to the students on how
to managing time that they can easily accomplish their task immediately and when the
community read this study they will learn and know the using of the time management
to complete their task in their homes.

Theoretical Framework

According to the Pareto principle the vast majority of impact in anything comes

from a small proportion of activities, people or efforts. Time management is the most

common use for the Pareto principle, as most people tend to thinly spread out their time

instead of focusing on the most important task.

According to pickle jar theory, using a pickle jar is easy to understand and

execute. In a time management perspective, you will similarly be able to get less

important work done in the spacies between and after major projects or tasks. But if you

let trivia take up much of your working day, there won’t be enough time left for you to

tackle what really matters.

According to the principle of overload if you want to accomplish a one most

prioritize task all over the plenty tasks you need to focus in that particular task first which

means, with a greater workload than the normal.

Figure 1

The pickle jar theory, present our daily life, what keeps us busy and how we divide

our time and tasks during the day. The pickle jar theory provides insight into our

timetable and offers opportunities to make an effort every day to put our most important

tasks at the top of the list every day. Only then does it get easier to handle and actually

meet deadlines. By not letting our daily activities be interrupted by the sand (less

prioritize tasks) that’s slipping by, it becomes easier to focus on the main tasks. The
insight becomes even more clear by working with to-do lists. By carefully considering

what tasks still need to be done in advance, you’ll be able to treat the most important

tasks as ‘rocks’ (more prioritize tasks) and put them on your list.

Statement of the Problem

1. How can the students improve their ability to manage time?

2. Why does the students find it hard when managing their time?

3. What are the factors that affects time management?

4. What is the significant impact of time management to the students?

5. Are there any possible cons of doing too much time management?

Hypotheses

A. Researchers conclude that one of the ways to improve or to have the

ability of doing good time management is to stop procrastinations and

prioritize all the tasks.

B. Students nowadays easily distracted on their surroundings like video

games, social media and anything else that are not really important. So the

students find it hard to manage their time because they are lack of time to

accomplish their task because of the distractions.

C. Factors that affect time management are age and gender. Age because

according to our observation older ones are have a lot of works to do than

the young ones. Gender, for males they tend to prioritize to play video

games and sports while females tend to prioritize more their social medias.
D. Time management is very important and it may actually affect individuals

overall performance and achievements.

E. Researchers conclude that doing too much time management have bad

effect and that is the recreation. Recreation vanishes from those peoples

life, who get involved in time management more that their personal skills.
