ACTIVITY PLAN

Elizabeth Perez Lopez

Name: What is the name of your activity?

Pulling String Art Activity

Center: Where will your activity be conducted? (Art, music, blocks, etc.)
My activity will be conducted in the Art center.

Age Group: What is the developmentally appropriate age range for this activity?
This activity is for children as young as 3 years old - 7 years old. It depends on
supervision and proper instructions.

Goals/Objectives: What specifically do you want children to know? What important concepts
and content might be learned during this lesson?
I want them to know that there is now right or wrong way to create art. This is an activity
where they don’t really know what they will create. It’s a surprise and everyones will be unique.
I want them to learn that each of them have a talent for art.

Materials/Setup: What materials or equipment are needed? List and describe the steps needed to
prepare for this activity.
Materials needed:
- string like yarn about 12 inches long.
- tempera paint in different colors about 5 different colors
- white paper
- containers for paint
- covered table
Steps to prepare this activity:
-First of all covered the table with a type of big butcher paper or a plastic tablecloth.
Then I will put the paint in the containers in the middle of the table. Give a child one
piece of white paper with their names in the back of the paper. Then have the string
pieces already cut and provide about 4 pieces to each child. After that start with the
instructions and demonstrations so they can start with the activity.

Introduction/Presentation: How will you introduce the activity? To answer this section, think
about: What type of statement or approach would you use to introduce the activity? What
components are teacher directed vs. learner centered? How will you provide a positive
emotional climate?
I will have all the materials ready as described above. I will have on extra one for me to
do the activity with them but not have one ready so then can create their own and not just copy
mine. I will show step by step with my materials what we will be doing after that I will stand up
so I can walk around and help if needed. I want them to be able to dip the string on their own
they can choose any color desired. They don’t need to use all four strings is basically what they
want to create materials will be provided and initial instructions will be given but they will create
what they want to.

Procedure: Describe your activity. This should be a step-by-step detail of the procedures of this
activity.
- Have children fold paper in half, then open it back up laying it flat on a covered
surface.

- Next have the child take a piece of string and submerge it in the paint leaving an end
free of paint to hold on to.

- Next lay the paint covered string on one side of the folded paper in any type pattern,
leaving the clean end of the string out so they can pull on that end.

- Then fold the paper back together and put your hand on the paper so you can feel the
string through the paper and begin pulling the string out moving it around the edges of
the pape r.

Emotional Support: How will you demonstrate the following?

● Positive Climate
● Teacher Sensitivity
● Regard for Child Prospectives

Critical Thinking/Open Ended Questions: What open-ended questions will you ask to help
children use their critical thinking/creativity skills? List at least 4-8 questions.
1. What do you think we will be doing?
2. What if we want to use one color only or mix colors do you think we can do that ? How?
3. What shape do you think it will create?
4. How does the string feel under the paper?
5. If we pull to fast what do you think will happen?

Closure: How will you end your activity? Provide at least 2 options.
1. I will ask them if they think they are done with their art creation or if they want to
add another string with paint.
2. I will tell them they did a very good job but is time to clean up.

Evaluation & Assessment: How will you determine whether your goals/objective have been
met? Provide at least 2 different options.

1. I will be observing during the activity making sure they learn how to dip the string in the
painting how they were able to pull the string in a slow motion knowing it will have a
better effect. If they manage to do that I will know they have developed a good grip.
2. I will see the end results when they open their paper to see the picture they have created
with the strings. If I see surprised reactions and positive comments I will know they have
learned art can be done in very different ways.
