Santiago Alvarez “Memoirs of a
General”
 Born on July 25, 1872 at Imus,
Cavite Primary Source Memoirs of
a General by Santiago Alvarez
a.k.a. Gen. Apoy
 The only child of Gen. Mariano
Alvarez and Nicolasa Virata
 Received early education under
Antonio Dacon, moved to Cavite
City under Ignacio Villocillo and
transferred to Tondo under the
tutelage of Macario Hernandez in
his parent’s desire for him to
become a teacher.
 His education was interrupted at
 Author’s the outbreak of the revolution in
Background 1896.
 He became of the hero of the
Battle of Dalahican against Gen.
Ramon Blanco.
 After the revolution, he continued
his studies at UST, but he
transferred at Letran where he
finished his Bachelor of Arts. He
took up law at Liceo de Manila.
 He died on October 30, 1930 at
San Pablo, Laguna where he was
buried.

Teodoro Agoncillo’s

 Born in Lemery, Batangas in 1934
 He obtained his AB Philosophy and
Master’s degree at UP.
 He worked as linguistic assistant at
the Institute of National Language

works, Revolt of the Masses, the
Crisis of the Malolos Republic, he
was invited to teach at the
Department of History at UP where
he later became chairman
 He died on January 14, 1985.
 He became a national scientist,
post-humously.

meeting held on March 22, 1897
between the Magdiwang and
Magdalo factions of the Katipunan
at San Francisco de Malobon,
Cavite.
