The setting of the story of Daedalus and Icarus is Crete.

Crete is said to be the largest island in Greece,


and it is the home of many stories in Greek Mythology. One of these stories is the Fall of Icarus where
Daedalus and Icarus play the main roles. There are also other stories in Greek Mythology that happened
in Crete. Here are some of them:

The setting of the story of Orpheus is the Underworld. Although the story started at the land of the
living where Orpheus and Eurydice married, most of the story happened in the Underworld where
Orpheus tried to return Eurydice back to life by the use of his remarkable musical talent. He was also
able to stop the people found in the Underworld from doing their divine punishment.

The Characters

1. Orpheus

Orpheus is the son of Apollo, the God of Music and Calliope, a muse. He is known to be the greatest
musician in Greek mythology by being able to sway the emotions of all living things by using only his lyre
and voice.

Eurydice is the beautiful wife of Orpheus. She is also an oak nymph.

The daughters of Danaus killed their husbands the first night they got married to them. As punishment
in Tartarus, they were cursed to fill a tub with water. However, the tub was leaking and so their
punishment was everlasting

12. Sisyphus

Sisyphus punishment in the underworld was to push a boulder up an endless mountain

The conflicts in the story of Orpheus are:

1. Orpheus vs. Nature, I think, since he could not accept the death of Eurydice, even if
death is a natural process, and even tried to reverse it. This is in connection to:
2. Orpheus vs. Himself. He was troubled, and insecure, which led to him turning around
to look for Eurydice, and her staying in the underworld. In the end, I believe he was still
in conflict, because he could not be at peace with the consequences of his actions.

3. Orpheus vs. Hades was also a conflict. Hades, after all, gave him the test not to look
back. This was also a trial that Orpheus had to overcome.

Exposition
Orpheus and Eurydice got married. Right after the wedding Eurydice fell to the ground
after a poisonous snake bit her. Eurydice and her spirit sunk down into the underworld.
Rising Action 1
When Orpheus' pain was too much he decided that he would travel through the
underworld to get his wife back.
Rising Action 2
Finally he had reached the throne and begged King Pluto and Queen Proserpina for his
love back. Orpheus sang his pleas and made everyone cry.
Rising Action 3
Pluto and Proserpina were touched and wiped their tears. Pluto said that he may take
Eurydice back with him on one condition, that he could not look back at Eurydice or she
would have to return to the underworld.
Rising Action 4
Orpheus longed to look back at his beautiful wife, but he didn't want her to disappear so
he kept his gaze straight ahead.
Climax
When he was up on the land of the living he looked back at her but Pluto had said both
of them had to be out of the underworld before he looked back.
Falling Action
Eurydice was pulled back into the underworld once again.
Resolution
He started singing again about his loss and some trees covered over him and protected
him as he sang his beautiful song.
In the story The Gorgon's Head, the characters of Perseus and Medusa in the story is a classic quest.
Perseus starts out at home, the island of Seriphus, leaves to embark on his adventures with this mission
- to get Medusa's head and then returns home to Seriphus when he has achieved his goal.

Seriphus is an island located in the Aegean Sea. This sea is a part of the Mediterranean region that
separates Greece and Turkey. Perseus' adventures take him to some distant, some mythical places,
including the home of the Graeae where the home of the Nymphai, and the cave of the Gorgons.
Perseus also flies over Africa, where he happens upon the Princess Andromeda.

Perseus - son of Danae and Zeus.

The Gorgons - The monstrous creatures. Hands made of brass, sharp fangs and a beard covered with
impenetrable scales and with hair of living snakes.

The Gray Women - Three Monstrous sisters of Gorgons namely Enyo the Shocking, Pemphredo the
horrifying and Deino the dreadful

Medusa - a monster with living venomous snakes in place of hair

King Acrisius - was the king of Argos. Grandfather of Perseus.

Polydectes - was the ruler of Seraphos and fell in love with Danae.

Dictys - brother of King Polydectes.

Andromeda - Daughter of Queen Cassiopeia and King Cepheus and later on becomes Perseus wife.

Hermes - the messenger of the gods and protector of the travelers. Son of Zeus

Athena - also known as Athene, the goddess of many things.

Major Conflict: It was when Perseus was sent to bring back Medusa's head by the evil king of the island
him and his mother were saved on. The king wanted to marry his mother but he didn't want to. That was
the main reason why the king tried to send Perseus away. And also, during the journey, he had to "pass
levels" to meet the next requirement of finding Medusa.

Exposition
The evil King Polydectes who ruled the island Seriphos was in love with Danae and
wanted to marry her, but he didn't want anything to do with her adult son, Perseus. So,
he tricked him into going to get Medusa's head. Medusa were very hideous creatures
who lived in a far away place. Anyone who looked into her eyes would instantly turn to
stone.
Rising Action 1
The gods, Hermes and Athena, along with three nymphs came to help Perseus and
gave him a polished bronze shield, an unbendable sword, a sack, winged sandals, and
a cap that turns him invisible.
Rising Action 2
Perseus then flew to the home of Medusa's sisters and with the cap of invisibility he
took their one tooth and eye so he could discover the location of the gorgon's secret lair.
Climax
Perseus made it to the gorgon's as they slept. So he wouldn't turn to stone, Perseus
spotted her face in the reflection of his shiny shield and swiftly cut her head off.
Falling Action
When he made it home the evil king laughed and asked him about the sack. Then
Perseus pulled Medusa's head out and turned the evil king into stone.
Resolution
Now Perseus uses Medusa's head to defeat all his enemies on adventures.
The story of Arachne was set in a small town in the kingdom of Lydia near Mount
Sipylus. Arachne is a Lydian maiden who is a very skilled weaver. She was actually so good at
it that her hubris got ahead of herself and started talking about how she's better at weaving than
the Goddess who invented it which was Athena.

The characters in the story of Arachne are: Arachne herself and Athena. The story revolves
around Arachne, a famous and skillful weaver. She is so well-known that people from other
cities travel just to buy her tapestries. The story of Arachne is also said to be the myth where
spiders were originated from. As evidence, "Arachnid"--the taxonomy class of spiders, is derived
from the Greek Mythology character, Arachne.

Arachne
Arachne is a Lydian woman who is skilled in weaving. She is said to be the best, and people
from other cities admire her work by travelling just to buy her tapestries. This had caused
Arachne to feel more confident and proud with her skills that she proclaimed that she's even

In the story Arachne, the conflict was both Man vs Supernatural and Man vs Self. She was
against a Goddess a supernatural being that surpasses other person by having unique abilities.
Man vs Self Arachne too struggled to be the bigger person and avoid boasting without enough
context.
Exposition
Arachne was a peasant as well as a wonderful spinner and weaver of wool.
Rising Action 1
Arachne challenged Minerva to a weaving contest because she was so talented.
Rising Action 2
Minerva disguised herself as an old woman to see Arachne's talent.
Rising Action 3
Minerva revealed herself and accepted the challenge to show Arachne how much more
talented she was.
Rising Action 4
Minerva started to weave a beautiful picture of the twelve greatest gods and goddesses
of Mt. Olympus. Arachne wove the same, but added the adventures of the gods.
Climax
Minerva saw that Arachne's weaving skills were better, so she ruined Arachne's
tapestry and started to hit her.
Falling Action
Arachne was disgraced, humiliated, and unsuccessfully tried to hang herself.
Resolution
Minerva sprinkled hellbane on Arachne and she lost her hair, nose, and ears. Arachne
became the first spider on earth and wove the first wonderful spider web.
The Song of Roland is the longest surviving work of French Literature. The story happened in
Spain and is based on the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 AD, where the concern is about the
Muslim invasion that gripped France in Charles Martel's and Charlemagne's time.

He is the hero in the story. Roland is a member of twelve peers of France and know as the favorite
nephew of King Charlemagne.

He is skillful. Roland became an extremely bold warrior that understands the Frankish campaign in Spain

As a strong and courageous warrior, his great popularity came to acknowledge among the Franks and
success on battlefield. It arises the anger of his stepfather, Ganelon.

Died as martyr’s at Roncesval, Roland was directly taken up by saints and angels to paradise.

Charlemagne

It name, Charlemagne, literally means Charles the Great. He was the King of Franks and a committed
militant Christian.

As an ardent ally of the pope, Charlemagne become a great conqueror.

The pope crowned him as the Rome emperor in 800 CE.

Ganelon

Ganelon is the stepfather of Roland. He of course a well respected Frankish baron.

Ganelon was offended when Roland nominates him as a messenger to the Sarcens.

Because he plots with the pagan Blancandrin the ambush at Roncesval, the vengeance of Ganelon was
turned to treachery. This is where Roland dies.
Roland, the main protagonist of the story, shows bravery, yet a sense of stubbornness, which
led to his downfall. The major conflict in the story is whn the main character (Roland)y is
attacked by Ganelon and the Saracens. Roland protects Charlemagne as he travels toFrance
