NAME: Frank Shane L. Sadicon

SECTION: 11-STEM 4

CINEMORAYTA ENTRY TITLE: Press, Pause and Play

DIRECTOR: Jessa Doydora
GENRE: Thriller
FILM PRODUCTION NAME: KBNT Productions

A. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FILM

This film focuses on a female vlogger named Alicia. For this, she is vlogging on
how to cook ‘Adobo’ since this is her family’s traditional recipe. But every slice and
mixing of ingredients she remembered the bad memories of yesterday that causes Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder to her.

B. CRITIQUE THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:

1. DIRECTION (WAS THE DIRECTOR’S VISION TRANSLATED THROUGHOUT THE

FILM? HOW?)

The director’s vision was perfectly translated throughout the film. We viewers really
understand every part of the film since every technicality were portrayed accordingly.
It’s single- scene act and memories from the past surround the whole film that I think
made the seamlessly flow. From the act of the main character and from the acting
voice, this illustrates how precise the directing is.

2. SCREENPLAY (WAS THE FILM HAS A WELL-WRITTEN AND COHERENT

NARRATIVE? JUSTIFY. )

The screenplay of this film is well-written and do acquire intelligent flow. The lines
were simply made but the characters strongly deliver the lines with correct tone, pitch
and giving emotions. There’s no misleading terms, every wording is appropriate, and
every line were original and this leave marks to the viewers like this one line, ‘Welcome
to my Kitchen!’.
3. CINEMATOGRAPHY (STORYTELLING THROUGH THE CAMERA ANGLES,
SHOTS AND MOVEMENTS. COLOR OF THE FILM IS ALSO INCLUDED TO SET THE
MOOD AND TONE)

The cinematography of the film is well-incorporated by the camera angles, shots

and movements. Even the color, mood and tone of this subjects that the film has really
good quality. Their cameraman is professionally taught because the angle is very
appropriate in every scene. The way the character act is supported by the angles that
causes the audience to focus. In addition, the color of the film describes the story itself.
Even the set design, they opt to shoot the film in a simple place but suitable to the flow.
4. EDITING ( WERE THE SCENES OF THE FILM SEAMLESS/SMOOTH?)

I was amazed by the editing of the film. It was finely done. It describes how perfect
the flow of the story is. Editing made the film more interesting to watch. The effect of
every scene is appropriate on what it is trying to say. From the overlay recording
camera, from the cut of scenes, transparency and other specific effects contributed
unity for this film and these things boosted how strong the film is.

5. SOUND DESIGN (INCLUDES THE LINES, SOUND EFFECTS AND MUSIC)

This film also uses apt sound effects that really labeled every action that the
character does. Lines of the character is exactly linked with the effects. There’s no
overlapping sound. The volume is accurate, and lines were clearly heard. The sounds
define the ambiance and the atmosphere of every scene. Its detailed sound effects
really helped every scene and brought it into reality.

6. LIGHTING
The lighting of the film is also good. This also provides understanding on the real meaning of
the film. Light, more specifically the quality of light here has a profound effect on the mood of the
scenes. The good texture, quality vibrancy of color and of the whole film is also because of the
good lighting.

SECTION: 11-STEM 4

CINEMORAYTA ENTRY TITLE: Date Tayo

DIRECTOR: John Buena
GENRE: Young Adult Fiction/Romance
FILM PRODUCTION NAME: CC Production

A. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FILM

The story started with a typical high school boy joining clubs at school and linking in
performances. That typical boy-meets-girl story that usually starts on an expected
moment in an expected time and place. Of course, they were teenagers and boys do
attract to girls eventually especially when attachment happened. Then after that the boy
tries to admit to the girl that he is in love with her. But an unexpected line were uttered
by the girl and this happened at the end of the story.

B. CRITIQUE THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:

1. DIRECTION (WAS THE DIRECTOR’S VISION TRANSLATED THROUGHOUT THE

FILM? HOW?)
I do appreciate the concept of the director that some of the characters is like talking
to us viewers, but I think the direction is somehow inadequate in terms of action and the
connection among the characters. But of course, the director seamlessly translated
what he wants for this film and I think that’s good. The flow of the story is well-
performed also but there are some lacking elements like the how the director controls
the artistic and dramatic aspects and how he visualizes the screenplay. But all in all, this
film is still amazing.

2. SCREENPLAY (WAS THE FILM HAS A WELL-WRITTEN AND COHERENT

NARRATIVE? JUSTIFY. )
This film featured fascinating characters, a bit exciting plot, and a great idea for a
marketable film. It somehow fit in with basic principles of the film because the lines are
well-written and also remarkable. In them, the movement, actions, expression, and
dialogues of the characters are also narrated but lacks on how the characters
expressed it. The chemistry arouses between the girl and boy but I think it is not enough
for every line that they are exchanging. But in the end, the writers really shocked me
because I wasn’t expecting that the girl just see friendship with the boy, instead she
loves another girl.

3. CINEMATOGRAPHY (STORYTELLING THROUGH THE CAMERA ANGLES,

SHOTS AND MOVEMENTS. COLOR OF THE FILM IS ALSO INCLUDED TO SET THE
MOOD AND TONE)
The cinematography for this is also a good job. It is perfectly suited for this is a
romance and need some romantic scenes. The angles of the camera also focus on
some parts of the body of the characters for this illustrates their extreme feelings. But
the camera is sometimes out of focus that causes blurredness in some instance. They
should be careful in handling and manipulating the camera that they are using because
it is too obvious. But the movements of the camera are quite good because we feel free
to experience what the characters in the film are experiencing. The color of the film
sometimes burns the characters skin tone. They should have use a light color for this is
romance that need juiciness in each scene, but they portrayed the mood and tone in
good direction.

4. EDITING ( WERE THE SCENES OF THE FILM SEAMLESS/SMOOTH?)

Film editing for this is also good but sometimes there are some advancements and
delays. But the film's flashback structure strengthens the audience's connection to the
characters. Also, the characters that seems to talk to audience is engagingly also
because it’s a bit silhouette that contributed to a unique style of editing for this. The
editor helps the film to move along at a pace that suits the story, giving us the detail and
story, you need to enjoy the movie while keeping us focus.

5. SOUND DESIGN (INCLUDES THE LINES, SOUND EFFECTS AND MUSIC)

The sound design is very interesting because they use clear sound effects that suits
in each scene. The voices in lines of the characters is also rich in good quality for this is
vibrant. But sometimes voiceovers affected the scenes because it is sometimes loud.
The music of this film is not familiar to me, but I think they uses or applied apparent
music and followed the story itself. It’s a good job also if the official sound track that
they use is originally made by the productions.

6. LIGHTING
I think there’s a bit problem in lighting that causes the characters to have a black
complexion in front of the camera but in only some of the scenes. All in all, still the
lighting is quite good for they use appropriate lighting in some scenes.
