Holy week is celebrated once a year to commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. This is the time wherein we Christians remember how difficult Jesus’ last days
were before He was crucified at the cross of Calvary and remember all the events leading to His
final breath. In our province, we have a unique way to celebrate and commemorate this event. We
have a tradition here in Isabela wherein we make a very special delicacy that we call “binalay”.
This delicacy is classified as “malagkit” which is made mainly out of glutinous rice to have that
sticky and chewy texture and then later on be packed inside a banana leaf. Then there’s also a
special sweet sauce made with coconut milk and brown sugar to go with the “binalay” which we
call “laro”. The “binalay” symbolizes the body of Christ that He sacrificed for us and the “laro”
symbolizes Jesus’ blood which He willingly shed for the atonement of our sins. Every time we eat
this delicacy, we are reminded of Jesus’ love for us and the sacrifice He has done for us. Everybody
in our province do this every year and has become part of our culture and tradition. And I also at
the three night revival at our church during the Holy week. Revival refers to the revival and
refreshment of our spiritual relationship with Christ that may have been cold throughout the year;
and that really helped my spiritual growth and I can surely say that I’ve been revived throughout
those three nights of worship, lectures/sermons and prayers. On the Sunday which refer to as Easter
Sunday, that is the time where Jesus has already risen from the dead. The resurrection of Jesus
Christ is one of the most important and crucial event of all the history because It is the ultimate
proof of the deity of Christ and that all He have said and promised were all true. Jesus’ resurrection
is also the reason why all of His disciples remained faithful to Him and have fulfilled their promises
and duties even when they are treated as criminals and have died horrible deaths; it is because they
have experienced and have seen with their own eyes how Jesus Christ rose again from the dead
and how he ascended into Heaven. They heard loud and clear that they were to share the good
news of salvation to all nations teaching them to obey and to baptize them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. So that is what we did on the eater Sunday. My
family and I other church members went to the river early in the morning and attended the sunrise
service. It is where the chosen preacher preacheSs about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
and baptize the new members of the church declaring the world that they are not ashamed that they
have Christ in their life and they will live the life of a true disciple of Christ and will also live to
share the good news of salvation.
