PRESENTATION, INTERPRETATION, AND ANALYSIS OF DATA

This chapter discusses the presentation of the data gathered all throughout the

study. The data were interpreted by the researchers. As a result, they were analyzed to

serve answers to the questions raised by the researchers to this study.

1. Profile of the Bashers

The present study aimed to determine the profile of the bashers which includes

the age, gender, family relation, social status, educational attainment, and the economic

status of the respondents.

1.1 Age

Age refers to the length of time that somebody or something has existed, usually

expressed in years.

There were 2 bashers who aged 17. The 2 bashers were still below the legal age

which is 18 years old. Being a basher doesn’t need an age requirement. Just like the 2

respondents, they were still young but they can bash already.

1.2 Gender

Gender refers to the socio-cultural attributes associated with being a men

and women.

The first basher is a male while the second other basher is a female. Males

and Females were capable of bashing social media users. Whatever the gender of a
person, they can bash a person whenever they like to. Therefore, the gender doesn’t affect

the decision of a person in bashing social media users.

1.3 Family Relation

This refers to the relationship of a family into the life of their family

member. It is also somehow the structure of the family.

The 2 respondents are part of a nuclear family or also called as the

complete family while the second respondent is. Their family relationship is strong and

tight also. Being a part of a complete family is a privilege to the society. Base on the

family relation of the 2 respondents, it simply says that their family relation is strong and

it doesn’t affect their decision making in bashing social media users. As long they are

happy, there’s no reason to be mad and to bash someone. Therefore, family relation can

be a factor in bashing social media users.

1.4 Social Status

Social status refers to the popularity of an individual.

The first respondent is not popular or famous in her school, she doesn’t

count her followers in the social media and her photos were getting a hundred likes.

While the second respondent is also not popular in his school, he doesn’t care about his

followers, and some of his photos were getting a hundred likes but some were not.

Popularity is not only measured whether you are popular in the school or

you are popular in the social media. The 2 respondents are not popular in their campus

but they were quite popular to the social media. Popularity can affect the effect of
bashing into a social media user but popularity doesn’t affect the reason of a basher in

bashing. Therefore, popularity doesn’t contribute to the mindset of the respondents in

bashing.

1.5 Educational Attainment

Educational attainment refers to the accomplishment of a person in his or

her studies.

The 2 respondents were currently Grade 11 students. The first respondent

was a part of their Top 10 while the other respondent was not part of it. Bashers were

focused on their studies and they were not adding their studies to be a part of their

decision in bashing a person. Educational attainment is not a factor of bashing social

media users. The attention of the bashers were taken away in bashing because they are

busy studying.

1.6 Economic Status

Economic Status refers to the situation of a person in to the society. If

she/he can fulfill all of his/her wants and needs.

The first respondent was not rich or poor but she believed that she was

blessed. The second respondent claimed that he cannot confirm that they are poor but he

can say that they are in the middle class. Even if the person is rich or poor, she or he still

can bash social media users. Therefore, economic status is also not a factor in bashing.
2. Reasons why bashers bash social media users

The present study aimed to find out the reasons of the bashers why are they

bashing personalities.

The first respondent claimed that she was not bashing social media users because

of the identity of that person. She does not care whether it is her friend, a personality, an

icon, or even a simple person. She is bashing because of their actions. She doesn’t like

their actions and that’s the factor why she is bashing someone. In bashing, she was using

a dummy account to protect her identity. The second respondent was using a dummy

account to also protect his identity. He was bashing social media users because of their

personality and actions. Just like the first respondent, he doesn’t care the identity of a

person as long as its personality and actions doesn’t fit its requirement, he will bash

social media users.

Using a dummy account can protect a person’s identity while doing bashing.

Bashing is intentional. They were trying to send a message into a particular person

because they wanted to change their bad habit or life. Therefore, bashers were selecting

their prey by the means of the actions of a person. They were not bashing the person’s

identity but they were bashing by the actions of others.

3. Effect of bashing to the social media users

The present study aimed to find out the effects of bashing to the social media

users.
3.1 Emotionally

It refers to the emotional condition of a person, whether he or she is sad,

happy, angry, scared and many more to mention. It also means that if the emotion of the

person is changed, or his or her emotion is sustained.

The effect of bashing to the social media users according to the first

respondent is that their emotion doesn’t changes. Somehow, the first respondent feel

victorious that can lead into the emotional effect towards the victim. According to the

second respondent, when he bash a person, sometimes they feel sad, frustrated and

somehow in pain. He also mentioned that when he bash it’s not that harsh and it all

depends on how the victim will deal to his bash.

Others can say that someone is strong when he she is emotionally strong.

The effect of the bashing to the social media users depends on the understanding of the

users. The bashers just want to bash them, somehow they want them to feel sad but it

depends to the understanding of the social media user. If he or she is weak, she will

meltdown, and if she or he is strong he or she will just leave it there and doesn’t even

care with it.

3.2 Psychologically

It refers to the mind of a person. Their self esteem and mindset is also part

of the psychological aspect.

According to the first respondent that the self esteem of the social media

user or their victim doesn’t decrease its self esteem and they don’t feel sadness or they
aren’t feeling down. The second respondent mentioned that sometimes bashing someone

can make their life sad, and sometimes they don’t even care.

The effect of bashing to the social media users or to the victims depends

on the choice of words of the bashers and the degree of hardness of the meaning of their

message to the users. Therefore, it doesn’t mean that when someone was bashed, there is

an effect towards him or her. Sometimes there is, and sometimes there is none.

4. Implication of the study to the Society

The implication of this study to the society is that the society should understand

the side of the bashers why are they bashing. It doesn’t mean that when they are bashing

someone, they are bad already. It also wants to share information to the users that they

need to accept and deal with the bashers because no one can stop the action of the bashers

from bashing. They need to find a way on how to deal with those things called bash.

The society needs understanding, accepting, and finding a way. The society needs

understanding because everyone has their own decision making and perceptions in life.

Acceptance because the society cannot hold the mind and actions of the bashers and

lastly, finding a way. The social media should find a way to deal with those bashers

because bashing can affect their life emotionally and psychologically.

.

Recommendations

1. The social media users should take care about what they are doing in the social

media because bashers are just waiting for a reason on how they are going to bash a

person.
2. The social media users should be strong and calm when they are receiving

bashing. As long as they are showing to the bashers that they are affected, the bashers are

continuing to bash that person.

3. Social media users should not entertain bashing because bashing is just a

criticism, it doesn’t show who they are.

4. The bashers should be careful in bashing because too much bashing to a social

media user, the more that they feel sad and can lead into depression.

5. If the bashers don’t like the personality of a person, just give them constructive

criticism not destructive criticism.

6. To the social media users, make sure that they will not put all of the happenings

in their life because social media is a place where you can interact with other people, its

not a diary.

7. To the society, before judging a basher, make sure that you know the exact

reason of the basher, who knows that the bashing that they are doing can be an eye

opener to that social media user to be a better person

8. If someone receives social media bashing, take it as a challenge, not a problem.

Take bashing as an obstacle that you will defeat those criticisms.
