Introduction

Moving into increasingly deeper waters has been a major trend in the development of
offshore oil and gas discoveries. Compared to fixed platform solutions, development
applying floaters and SPS-SURF solutions became increasingly important as discover-
ies on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) called for solutions for water depths in
excess of 200 – 300m.
Regional Director,
The Norwegian oil & gas industry met this domestic challenge through R&D, feasibility Per Hagen
studies and technology development and this resulted in innovative solutions initially
qualified for field developments on the NCS.

It also resulted in a cluster of suppliers and service providers as well as companies

with marine operations capability, required to implement the solutions in the field.

SPS-SURF solutions will play an increasingly important role as fields are to be developed
in deeper and more remote areas – as well as for the development of marginal fields
tied back to fixed or floating hubs covering larger areas.

Over the last 20 years Norwegian-based SPS-SURF companies has faced even bigger
challenges in international markets and, through their deliveries, been recognized as a world
class cluster. This catalogue presents the Norwegian SPS-SURF Cluster with its significant
growth of SME companies as well as ship-owners moving into marine operations.

SPS – SURF Categories

The catalogue presents INTSOK partner companies and their competences and capabilities
in SPS-SURF as well as a matrix for a quick overview of their capabilities.
The main categories used in this capability catalogue are:

Engineering & Technical Services: Subsea and SURF technologies are highly specialized
with particular demands on engineering & technical services; covering services from
multiphase flow simulations, total system studies, pipeline and subsea architectural
design to detailed installation and tie-in studies.

Subsea Production Systems (SPS): These systems can range in complexity from a
single satellite well with one flowline tied back to a fixed platform or a floating installation,
to several wells on a template or clustered around a manifold and transferring to a fixed
or floating production facility . Subsea Production Systems include seabed located
hardware, from wellheads and X-mas trees to templates, manifolds and connection
systems for flowlines and risers, as well as potential subsea power, separation and
boosting systems. Also specialized equipment like tooling for installing and maintaining
the systems and working over the wells are included.

Umbilicals, Risers & Flowlines: The The hardware elements that are required to con-
nect the subsea systems to a fixed platform or a floating unit.

Marine Operations and Intervention: The installation of hardware and servicing it

throughout its life cycle requires marine installation and/or intervention vessels. The
servicing requires deployment of tooling from an intervention vessel.

This catalogue showcases an innovative cluster of INTSOK partners covering the

complete subsea architecture required for development of oil and gas discoveries in
deepwater. They provide hi-tech solutions in a complementary and competing environment
and are increasingly important for the sustainability of the Norwegian Oil & Gas supplier
and service industry.

Wirescan AS

Wirescan AS provides products and services for diagnosis and condition assessment of
electrical cables, based on our patented technology LIRA.
The LIRA technology can be regarded as a tool for Risk Management, Cost Control, and
Asset Management for Cables and Umbilicals.
- By knowing the condition of your cables, you are able to handle faults and weaknesses in
a controlled matter, rather than having to fire fight when sudden severe incidents occur.
- You will also have the tool to prioritize which cables and umbilicals to repair or replace
during a budget period, based on your knowledge on their individual condition.
- Cables and umbilicals represent a huge value to the company, and should be part of the
Asset Management System. By using LIRA for frequent condition assessments, you will be
able to attach relevant data about the individual cable’s condition and development over
time, into the system.
