TITLE : “ISLAM LEADS THE UNITY”

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..Alhamdulillahirabbil’alamin..Wassola tu wassala Rasulillah,

wa ‘ala alihiwasohbihi waman waalah.

Assalamualaikum….w.b.t. and a very good morning to the respected chairperson ,

honourable panel of judges, faithful timekeeper, teachers and fellow friends. Before I begin
my speech, I would like to introduce myself. I am ………………………………………... I feel
great to be here today, in front of you my dearest brothers and sisters. “ISLAM LEADS
THE UNITY” is the title of my speech on this beautiful day..

According to the Oxford Dictionary, unity is the state of being in an agreement and working
together with other people. Islam promotes the unity regardless of our races and social class.

Ladies and gentlemen ,

Let us look back to the history. Unity is an important key to ensure the success of the
transformation of a nation. Our Prophet Muhammad SAW was chosen by Allah to be the last
messenger and marked the beginning of the era of transformation of human civilization for
the Arab society and mankind. From an idol-worshipping and ignorant society, the Arab turned
into a guided ummah which practiced Islam in accordance with the teaching of Al-Quran and the
Sunnah.

Ladies and gentlemen ,

Our beloved Prophet had successfully united the Arab Society based on Ukhuwwah
Islamiyyah that is Islamic Brotherhood. Islam stressed the love for fellow ummah, the
unselfishness, ready to sacrifice for the cause of Allah.

As we all know, Islam is a religion of unity - even more, it is a uniting faith, with the full
meaning of this word. Worshipping for one real God which is Allah; for one basic message: La
ilaha ila allah (There is no God but Allah). We have all heard this famous quote, which stresses
the importance of a unity that is sadly lacking today. All crimes and corruptions have emerged
because of the disunity, and the unity is the key to a co-operative world so that, we Muslims
especially should hold together and act as one ummah.

Allah (SWT) says:

Which means “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become
divided” Ali ‘Imran verse 103.
From this verse, it is clearly shows that Islam commands unity among its
followers. There is a popular modern saying: United we stand, divided we fall. Unity is very
important in any society, any group and any organization in order to achieve the goals of that
particular entity. Praying in congregation is an example of advocacy of unity. Gathering of
millions of Muslims every year in Mecca for performing Hajj during Dhul Hijjah is one of the
greatest examples of unity being commanded by Islam.

In earlier days Rasulullah SAW and His companions worked together and enlightened the
path of Islam which we are enjoying today. This shows that unity is a victory that brings benefits
to all. That’s why Allah says: “. . . and do not become divided”.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Why Disunity?

Before knowing how to get united, it’s important to figure out the reasons of why we
become separated in the first place. So let’s look at them first.

One and foremost, is the misunderstanding of Islam. The very first cause of disunity
among us is the misunderstanding of Islam. We all know what fundamentals and principles are,
but we haven’t really understood them. Each and every one of us has formed theories for our
own convenience without understanding that Islam provides the same unchanged teachings for
all.
Secondly, lack of mutual understanding. A lack of understanding among Muslims is also
a main source of disunity. When this happen, we will never become united.

Lastly, the irresponsibility. Honestly, each of us are responsible for our deen, but many of
us think that only ulamas and those relevant to this field are responsible. We only know about a
scope of people, but if we just have a glance beyond our scope, we will realize how many
Muslims really feel the responsibility they have towards our Islam.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I would list here the three ways to restore our unity.

Firstly, if we direct our sole focus on the unity, then certainly we can make a difference.
Once we give our whole attention to the unity, then every of our problems will be solved.

Secondly, once we have set our focus, we should get energized to build up a secure
relationship within the ummah. We should strive to understand and support each other.

Thirdly, the past is gone, the future is ahead, but the present is on our feet. So let’s use
our time properly and usefully. If we’re teenagers, then we have plenty of time to consider our
society. Don’t wait for tomorrow, as it may never come.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Islamic scholar, Sayyid Abul Al Maududi, in his book Fundamental of Islam, put Imaan
and Ukhuwwah as the two pillars of Islam. We need to battle the enemies of Islam. We need our
fellow pious brothers to remind us when we commit a mistake or a sin. “Ad-DeenuNasihah”.

As a conclusion, we should always keep in mind that we all are travelling in one ship. We
are sailing in this world with the hope of reaching our eternal destination, but it would be very
difficult if we didn’t work together, especially during difficult times like storms. Therefore, let’s
get united so that we can attain victory in both worlds by the Grace of Almighty.

May Allah Subhanahu wa Taala unite the ummah. Ameen Ya Rab al aalameen.

Wabillahi taufiq wal hidayah, Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
