Part 2: Questions
Answer the following questions:

1. Describe the purpose for establishing classroom expectations or procedures for one of the management
issues listed in the table above. What methods can you use to ensure the classroom expectations and
procedures are developmentally appropriate and meet their intended purpose?

The purpose of establishing classroom expectations and procedures is to prevent as many behaviors as possible.
Using simple rules that students help create rules for the classroom creates more student buy in. Some of these
rules could be: be respectful, be safe, and focus on your learning. Procedures are created though repetition and
making sure that transitions that will happen every day become repetition after a week or so.

2. How will students’ IEP goals and objectives affect the management of your classroom?

Students with behavioral goals will need more time and patience to comply with classroom rules. Always make
sure to make the classroom routine consistent for students with exceptionalities.

3. How might your classroom management approach change based on the least restrictive environment? What
other considerations may influence your classroom management plan and the way in which you deal with
behaviors?

Depending on the student I would have to reconsider how a student with exceptionalities work on different
assignments. For example working with a student who has anxiety in groups might be given an alternative task
where the student works on the same assignment alone.

4. How can different cultural issues affect the management of your classroom? How can you create an
environment where all students feel safe, respected, and supported?

I would make sure that all cultures are incorporated into my classroom by asking about family tradition in the
beginning of the year surveys. I want to know my students and make sure all of them feel as comfortable as
possible and feel safe, respected and supported. By being genuine and reminding students when they are having
a hard time that I am there to listen and help when needed.

5. What are the benefits of working with families and colleagues to create a positive classroom environment and
address behavior issues? Describe possible challenges of working with families, and how you would
overcome those challenges.

By working with families and colleagues an educator can get help creating a positive classroom environment. By
communicating with the families you will have a better understanding of the students’ home life and what is
important to the families at home. By working with colleagues an educator can gain new perspectives on how to
manage difficult behaviors. Sometimes working with the families can be difficult because the family is not as
involved in the student’s life or they could not follow up with discipline at home. If the students have disruptive
behaviors at school and the teachers give consequences for that behavior at school but the parent doesn’t follow
up with any consequences at home the student could continue the inappropriate behavior.
