How to enable DEBUG tracing for SUM?

You have experienced an error during Software Update Manager's execution. You want to get DEBUG traces in order to get more information about the error and/or provide it to SAP support. To do that
follow KBA 1838153.

Can I apply higher SP to only some of the components on my NetWeaver system?

Software Update Manager allows you to update the whole system to a higher support package stack using a stack xml file generated in SAP Solution Manager's Maintenance optimizer system - MOPZ.
You can also update one or more software components to a higher patch(not support package) level using 'Manually prepared directory' option. See SAP note 1641062 for more information.

Can I install additional SAP software components/technical usages using SUM?

Yes. In order to install additional software component archives (SCAs) or technical usages to your NetWeaver system you need to use the stack xml option in SUM and generate the stack xml using
Maintenance optimizer tool (MOPZ). For more information follow the SUM guide chapter 'Installing Additional Usage Types (Technical Usages) in an Existing SAP System'.

Can I downgrade one or more software components on my SAP NetWeaver system to a lower SP/patch level?
No. Currently Software Update Manager(SUM) does not support downgrading of Software components. If a wrong version has been deployed on your system and you want to downgrade, you will need to
restore your system to a state prior to the deployment and then update to the correct version required.

Can I manually modify the stack xml file generated in Maintenance Optimizer(MOPZ)?
No. Manual modifications of the MOPZ generated stack xml file are not allowed.

Do I need to update JSPM before updating my whole system?

No. There is no need to update JSPM individually prior to updating your SAP system.

Download of SPS12 NW 7.40 contains only SP11 for all java components but ABAP components are in SP 12 version, why?
There is Release strategy change due to which delivered SP version are different, see KBA 2210959 - Release strategy of SPS12 - SPS17 for NW 740 Java
