CM303 – Advanced Estimating & Scheduling Controls

Concept and Assemblies Estimates

Provide your answers to the following questions and submit via Blackboard.

1. Prepare a square foot estimate for the following projects:

a. Three-story college dormitory, 65,000sf, face brick with concrete block
backup
b. Fast food restaurant, 3000sf, brick veneer
c. Luxury home, 2,800sf, solid brick, single story
How much would each project cost in the following cities: Dallas, San
Francisco and Atlanta?
How much would each project cost in the following years: 1970, 1990 and
2010?

2. What is the projected return on investment (ROI) for a 200-room motel to be built
in Norfolk VA? Use RS Means Reported Square Foot Data (in your textbook).
Consider the following assumptions (all fit within textbook references):
a. Medium level of quality
b. Eight-five percent occupancy
c. Nightly rate of $119
d. Ten percent profit
e. Spring 2011 completion

3. Decide between two roofing membrane options for a new project. Option #1 is to
use a 4-ply #15 asphalt felt, mopped roof. Option #2 is to use PVC, 48 mils, fully
adhered with adhesive. Option #1 is less expensive, but you estimate it will cost
$10/sf in additional maintenance over the life of the building. Both are projected
to last 15 years. Which is the better alternative?

4. Using Figure 6.11 in your textbook, how many linear feet of partition walls would
be the norm for a three-to-five story, 50,000sf dormitory?
