The analysis of two dimensional (2D) flow over NACA 0012 airfoil is validated with NASA Langley Research Center validation cases. The
k-ω shear stress transport (SST) model is utilized to predict the flow accurately along with turbulence intensities 1% and 5% at velocity inlet
and pressure outlet respectively. The computational domain is composed of 120000 structured cells. In order to enclose the boundary layer
method the enhancement of the grid near the airfoil is taken care off. This validated simulation technique is further used to analyse
aerodynamic characteristics of plain flapped NACA 0012 airfoil subjected to different flap angles and Mach number. The calculation of lift
coefficients (CL), drag coefficients (CD) and CL/CD ratio at different operating conditions show that with increasing Mach number (M) CL
increases but CD remains somewhat constant. Moreover, a rapid drastic decrease is observed for CL and an abrupt upsurge is observed for
Cd with velocity approaching to the sonic velocity. In all cases range and endurance are decreased, as both values of CL/CD and √CL/CD
are declined. Keywords: NACA 0012 airfoil; lift coefficient (CL); drag coefficient (CD); lift curve; drag polar; flap angle (δ); range (R);
endurance (E); mach number (M); k-ω shear stress transport (SST) model. Abstract-The analysis of two dimensional (2D) flow over NACA

A Study on VGTM Actuation System for Multi-Axis Morphing Wing of UAV

June 2016

Shanmugam Palaniswamy · Samikkannu Raja · Parammasivam M. K · Fathima Zohra

The shape control of adaptive wings can improve the aircraft aerodynamic performance during its flight. In morphing wing technology, the
wing-level morphing alters the sweep, dihedral, twist and span of the entire wing to significantly reconfigure the geometry to achieve optimal
performance. This paper focuses on the type synthesis of a modular variable geometry truss (VGT) mechanism for aircraft ... [Show full

Blasius Solution: A Comparison of Exact Solution with an Approximate Solution

February 2016

Mohsen Ghanbarabadi

Boundary layers and calculating the drag caused by shear stresses are very essential in the aerodynamic studies. Two methods are studied
for calculating the drag. First the exact solution (Blasius solution) and second an approximate solution. We have used these two approaches
to calculate drag on a flat plate with the length L. In Blasius solution we used the stream function in continuity and ... [Show full abstract]

Gautier Collignon

Pushing the limits of aerodynamic efficiency has always been one of the main cores of the technological innovation regarding aircraft design.
Today, most commercial airliners travel at important speeds, and have been studied to be as efficient as possible. However, all current
aircraft rely on hinged control surfaces, such as ailerons, to perform critical manoeuvres and general stability. The ... [Show full abstract]

EFFECT OF CIRCULAR SHAPED INWARD DIMPLE ON NACA 0012 AIRFOIL

September 2016

T Gopikrishnan Kailas · Reji Mathew

At present, there are different kinds of surface modifications that are being studied to delay the flow separation in order to improve the
aerodynamic efficiency of the aircraft. Application of dimples on aircraft wing model works in same manner as vortex generators. In the
present study we analyse the effect of Circular inward dimple on the flow characteristics of NACA 0012 symmetric aerofoil by ... [Show full

Preliminary Analysis of Boundary Layer Reattachment by Momentum Injection Method over NACA0012 Airfo...
November 2014

Renan Francisco Soares · Francisco Souza · Alexandre Medina

The separation of boundary layer on airfoils is undesirable because it reduces lift and increase drag force. Among several methods to active
control of boundary layer, this paper discusses the applicability of a boundary layer reattachment method, which uses injection of momentum.
This method applies a jet in the region of detachment. Thus, an adapted profile is proposed, the result from NACA0012 ... [Show full abstract]
