13TH ECO QUIZ IN LINE WITH THE PHILIPPINE ENVIRONMENT MONTH

Last June 20, 2017, EMB 8 participated in the 13th Eco Quiz collectively organized by
PCAPI Region 8, EDC, and other industries in Leyte and held at Ormoc Superdome as a
culminating activity of the Philippine Environment Month. The theme of this year’s
Environment Month is “ Connecting People to Nature”. This eco quiz aims to increase
environmental awareness and stewardship among the youth. EMB had also set up a booth in
the venue showcasing the different programs and mandates of the agency. Engr. Angelita
Dimzon, president of PCAPI VIII, gave the opening remarks. Mayor Richard Gomez,
alongside Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, DepEd Supt. Manuel Albaño, and Ormoc City
Fiesta Execom Chairman Mr. Rodriguez, likewise, gave inspirational messages to the
competing students and other participants in the event.

Students from the different elementary and highschools in Ormoc City competed for the top
spot as they battled on the basis of their knowledge on the environment. On the elementary
category, a student from St. Peter college won the first place besting 72 other students who
participated in the quiz. He was followed by Ormoc Immaculate Conception student, and
then for the third place, a student from Dayhagan Elementary School. In the highschool
category, a student from Valencia National Highschool won first place, followed by a student
from Ormoc Immaculate Conception School Foundation Inc in the second place and lastly, a
student from Ipil National Highschool won 3rd place. Each student winners received cash
prizes, plaques of recognition and certificates.

After the Eco-quiz, PCAPI VIII organized a technical session wherein the pollution control
officers in the region learned about green technologies for treatment of domestic and
industrial wastewater. The resource person of the lecture was Ms. Alma G. Paqueo,
president/CEO of JOWEM Technical Solution Inc.

In the evening, EMB 8 Chorale gave an outstanding performance in the “ Power and Industry
Fellowship Night” by singing popular cultural songs. The different executives, employees of
various member industries and LGU Ormoc were present in the entertaining and energetic
event. Some of the industries present in the event were Cleanaway Philippines Inc, Ormoc
City Sand and Gravel Operators, Coca-Coal FEMSA Philippines, Inc, Energy Development
Corporation, Petron, Gaisano Capital Ormoc, PASAR, Pryce Gas, LEYECO V among others.
EMB 8 Finance and Admin Division Chief, Ms. Maribel B. Munsayac also gave a message to
the attendees. The social gathering was fun-fiiled event wherein employees of each industries
showcased their talents, choice giveaways were raffled to the lucky winners, and everyone
danced to the lively music.
