According to Census (2001), a person born at a place other than the village or
town of enumeration is considered as migrant. People migrate for three factors:
economic, cultural and security. People leave their original settling ground either for
positive or negative consideration. People move and reside to a place or environment
that complements and satisfy their needs and wants. People considered the cost and
time that they will invest that is why they move. Others migrated to urban areas while
others migrated to rural areas. Reason for this, is to look for employment, better
education, and better place to live.
Many people who migrate, however, have not necessarily chosen to do so.
Forced migration is becoming ever more prevalent as a result of civil, political and
religious persecution and conflict. Human wished to live happy in a place where they
can get equal opportunity to secure a better for themselves and their families. In our
group we interviewed five different persons in two locations which are the San Isidro, R.
Castillo Street, Agdao Davao City and 8th Avenue Barangay Monteverde Agdao, Davao
City. We formulated questions like what is the basis or reasons they migrate, Is it pull or
push factor and what format of migration.
First is, Ms. Rowie Devorrah Digal a 27year old from Agusan. She lives now in
Davao for 7months, her reason of migrating is that for economic purposes. It was a pull
factor for she considered it as positive. She decides to go here because she thinks that
there are many opportunities waits for her. She said that she did not regret with regards
to the choice that she made because now she is a call center agent and she find this job
suit to her needs. She chooses to find a boarding house in Agdao, Davao City because
it is accessible to all economic activities like near to malls, supermarket, hospitals, and
to her work. Ms. Rowie moving from Agusan to Davao is a Step Migration.
The second interviewee is Mr. Timothy Serencio a 29 year old male and he
work as a taxi driver here in Davao City. He is from Monkayo, Davao de Oro, the reason
why he transferred here in Davao is economic factor he finds a job that suit to his skill
which is driving. It is also a pull factor for he considered moving as positive. The other
reason is security factor, he is now building his own family and he find Davao City a
safest place where he could start his life together with his wife, they live in Agdao for 1
year and he said they choose Agdao because it is accessible to economic activity. Mr.
Timothy had also stated that he will return to Monkayo. It can be considered as a
Counter Migration.
The third interviewee is Mrs. Merlyn Barro a 46-year-old housewife, she takes
care of her two grandchildren because the parent is an OFW. They are from Pantukan,
Davao de Oro, what push her to move is because of her bad experience that she does
not want to recall it because that experience made her life a miserable one. She
followed her daughter in Davao city and they choose Agdao to live because it is
accessible to all like supermarket which she likely to go, malls, church and most
important it takes only one ride to the school which her grandchildren studied. The
Format of Migration is Chain Migration.

The Fourth interviewee is Mrs. Mila l. Bagolor a 42 year old promodiser. The
reason why she transferred from Pulomolok to Davao is for security purposes. It is a
push factor because of negative condition that their province is unsecured, dangerous
and prone to tragedies. They moved for the reason that they want to feel safe and good.
They move from rural to urban because for the reason that they can find a lot of
opportunities in the cities. This format of migration can be considered as Step Migration.

The Fifth interviewee is Jovie Mulay a 27 year old marketing student from
USEP. The reason why she transferred from Tagum to Davao is to study at USEP as
well as to work at her tita's carenderia to sustain her everyday needs in school. It is a
pull factor because she saw a lot of opportunities in Davao that helps her to grow as a
better person. She also stated that after her graduate she will work here permanently
and settled in Davao for good. This format of migration is step migration.

In conclusion, Migration has a huge impact not just in a country but especially to
humans. The broad patterns of migration have much to do with decision making
process of the migrant's themselves. This decision making process is in turn influenced
by 'push' and 'pull' factors, which are basically economic phenomena. It was also
observed that the influence of 'push' and 'pull' factors on the migrants was determined
by the socio- economic conditions of the household of origin. Migration can benefit poor
people in developing countries. For individual and families, migration can increase
income, lead to new skills, improve social status, build assets and improve quality of life.
